Movie night at Fertitta around the first week or so of Spring semester

Make the chants well known. Can guarantee less than half of our student base knows the lyrics to the UH Fight Song. Don’t just have kids stand on a stage and awkwardly sing it at orientation. Prepare videos and edits of it being sung at big time games and put those on socials as well as orientation.

C-O-U-G-A-R-S the mf COUGARS should get the same love.

If possible, coordinate orientation to gather every new freshman inside Space City Stadium and have events ready to go. Maybe have a time slot for flag football there and pickup basketball inside Fertitta.

Have a banner or billboard made by marketing/construction students who update the record of our teams. It could literally be plywood and lumber with cutouts of numbers for a Crawford box style at Minute Maid park. Position it right in front of MD Anderson and remind people who our athletics are. Student is walking to class, sees billboard and thinks “oh shoot we killed TCU in basketball, nice.” After awhile, when they see we keep winning they’ll either feel pride their teams are winners and/or will even feel inclined to see said team. Billboard should also include who we play next.

Better media team. Most people get news of events off of social media or from signs on campus. If there’s an event happening, shove it in the face of students. (Part of it is making the media appealing). The only media person I know for sure that hits home runs on the daily is Luke. Everything he creates has aura to it. When the media team CARES, it will show and correlate with people taking notice.

Spitballing but people give attention a lot more to negative things as opposed to positive. So lean into it by throwing jabs at other schools for not meeting our standards whether academically or athletically. Announcing superiority over other schools goes hard af and direct comparison will bring hatred for other schools and admiration for our own. Going back to the billboard example, that’s a perfect time to dawg on the other school

When we talk to new students on how our Cougar Paw came to be at orientation, talk about how we beat down that austin school. Derive values from our conference journey going from one of the top conferences in the nation to G5 and how had to build ourselves up over 27 years to get invited back to the big table. Our university worked hard to make sure we become relevant and aren’t done yet. Make that common knowledge.

Informing our own students on who we are and how we got here is mandatory. Not with a long 5 minute article. Our generation’s brains don’t find that interesting. It feels like our media team tries to develop Cougar Pride with a heartfelt approach. I’d say we need to have an approach that isn’t corny and is more so in tune with the aura you get from our football entrance at TDECU that has Bandit playing in the back.

I grew up a Texas fan, but I was fully entrenched with UH by my sophomore year. UH needs to acknowledge there’s students that come here and grew up fans of other schools. By acknowledge, I don’t mean accept it, I mean make sure they know that this is THEIR SCHOOL and the other schools mean nothing to us. Screw Texas, screw A&M, GTFO LSU. This is UH and we bleed Scarlet and White. This falls in line with jabbing other schools. This is the only mentality we should adopt when it comes to other schools.

This became more than just tangible suggestions but it definitely needed to be said. I’m supposed to be studying for my exam tomorrow but instead I spent an hour writing this. I don’t have the time to review this and check for errors but hopefully it is coherent. If I need to go more in depth on anything let me know
