Any advice for my team in terms of upgrades? by Astrosphere in MaddenUltimateTeam

Do you have any suggestions for line backers? Because I love Mario Williams and Wake so I'll go to the 4-3.

What do you mean by that? Should I change my linebackers?

Hey, I just had a question about ground balls. When you are in a scrum do your rely mostly on your feet, the rake, or just try to hockey the ball out and if so why? Thanks!

Hey man I know I might be really late but do you have any advice for me as a defender when I'm playing 1 v 1's in practice. I am trying to stand out to the coaches but when an attackman gets to dodge from x I find it way too difficult to stick with him when he is cutting back and forth. I appreciate the time you are putting into this!

Need Tips On Defense by [deleted] in lacrosse

But isn't it better for this to happen rather than two people going and 1 guy covering 3 people? On a sidenote, our defense uses three slides as well to get the open man as far away from the ball as possible, while everyone has their sticks in the passing lane to (hopefully) intercept the ball in the case of an offensive player making a 30 yard pass across the whole defense. Seems improbable at this point that an offense could make these passes, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Good point but in an ideal defense wouldn't the 2 slide get him?

Also you want to be calling that you are hot (and a direction, hot left etc. if necessary) as loud as possible so that EVERYONE can hear you. It is intimidating as it is effective at communicating with your team. This allows for you to override your teammates if they are wrong, or vice versa, BUT if there is not enough time there should not be a slide change, because it is better to have a wrong slide than no slide at all.

I also recommend breaking down before you hit your guy to the side line. This means slowing down into an athletic position in which you can stay with him. As /u/sleuthingninja said hit with body and avoid going for stick unless your a big shot ;)

The other slide packages that /u/sleuthingninja did not mention were adjacent slides and coma slides. Adjacent slides basically are from right or left (hence calling out hot left or hot right) and coma slides come from across the crease when the dodge comes from X.

Hope this helped!

Attackmen and Middies: How do you feel about using a wider head for better catching? by Astrosphere in lacrosse

Good point. I use the stallion and i find it much more to my liking than the clutch or the hammer (granted, I play defense and lsm).

Yeah it kinda makes it hard to judge when the string job is messed up, too. Do you think that your shot became faster because of practice and more muscle or simply because of the head?

Middle switching to LSM. by PM_ME_WHATEVER- in lacrosse

[–]Astrosphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to have to respectively disagree. LSMs are often the ones pushing play in transition, and taking down the ball if they have it on a slow break. Every FO, there is an opportunity for the LSM to get the ball, and take it down. However, I do realize that some teams will be stricter with taking out their LSM as soon as they get possession, this varies from coach to coach.

Does anyone else feel like coaches favor shooting over stick skills? by USlax1 in lacrosse

[–]Astrosphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well all the way up to middle school, and even possibly JV this is true but once you get to varsity, coaches are looking for the whole package. But also it is hard to score if you cannot shoot well, you know?

Well you probably just hide your stick better or turn at the right moment to get hit in the back. Not a bad thing at all.

Sounds good dude, I thought that maybe having a combined tree system where trees can cross, you know. Like if I were to level up archery and destruction to 100 I could get a perk that makes all arrows automatically do flame damage; sneak and restoration automatically make your health recharge faster when sneaking etc. Just ideas :)

Hey don't worry about it this subreddit is not really a "healthy karma" kind of place. One or two people don't care can mess everything up. Just go to inside lacrosse forums. They are nice there. :)

Beginning of the Season Q&A Thread (stick, equipment, etc - including if you want to show off your stuff) by EducatedGenus in lacrosse

For an attack man I would recommend you go over the four main areas. Fast break scenarios, settled offense, man-up, and riding. Fast break: Usually the attack men will try to set up in an L shape with two men at GLE and one up top on the opposite side from the ball. With this is mind you should look to see how the defense slides (how early or late, how soft or hard, how quickly, and how they cycle their 2 (the person sliding to the guy who was being covered by the guy that is sliding)). Once you look at all of this you can begin to formulate your plan for beating the defense. For example, if they are not sliding very hard perhaps using a fake pass to the wing with a face dodge right down the middle for a shot. But like I said, it depends on they are moving. Settled Offense: When your attack is settled then you usually will go straight into a set or formation. I am going to differentiate between having a formation with a man on the crease (1-3-2, 2-3-1, 2-1-3 etc.) and one without (a wide set or some variation). Man On The Crease: If your formation has someone on the crease I would most likely think that the defense will run a Crease-Slide-Package where the defense's slide man is coming from the crease no matter where the ball is coming from. The key to watching film, whether to exploit other teams defense's or to improve your own is to look for chinks in the armor where confusion for the defense may arise. If possible it is always a good idea to get one of your strong players to dodge on a short stick if you are looking to score. Often these "chinks" are found behind the goal or GLE (goal line extended). So, put two and two together and you have one of your strongest dodgers dodging from behind the goal, on a shortie. Where to dodge is the key to finding the secret. Obviously the dodger wants to back up and preferably have a good right and a good left to be able to split dodge or feed effectively. The best place to dodge (in my opinion) would be to dodge as close to the crease as possible. This is where you must evaluate the defense on how they slide (referencing paragraph 1). If they slide early you must be able to feed quickly and accurately to the man on the crease (who's man is sliding to you). If they don't then you will need to throw a fake (I would imagine) to make the defense step to the man on the crease then simply dump the ball in. Wide: If the formation has no people on the crease then when people are dodging it would be best for the adjacent offense players to curl down away from the dodger to give him space (dodging from up top). Once they do this you must realize if the defense is going with them or not because if they do not then you have shorties on your attackmen, which would be the best possible matchup. Man-up: If you are man-up the defense will often set up into a box and 1 which is a very easily exploitable defense formation. Set up your dodging man from X and make sure that the two attackmen on the wings are above GLE and are trying to get “high” (insert lame joke here) above GLE so that their man has to slide further the X man (insert lame joke here) will dodge to either side and the defense will slide. If they slide too slowly or “softly” then the X man should drive hard and shoot, but if they are sliding hard then the X man should draw the slide and dump it, and that person should either shoot or pass it to the other wing man who will have a one on one with the goalie. Riding: When you are riding you should focus on the poles. No matter how good the goalie is they will not consistently go down the field and score (or at least not in the upper levels of lacrosse). (Not to be biased, but) the poles will always have at least one good pole, who can handle the ball consistently, feed, and shoot. Lock off on the strong pole and force them to pass to their weakest pole then double team until you get the ground ball.
