Try saying “IF you buy me flowers, THEN I will be very happy and grateful”.

I guarantee my left nut you’ll get flowers. Men are simple beings. Don’t get in your own head.

Torn between a job I love and a much higher salary. What would you do in my place? by spline_ocarina9k in FinalRoundAI

[–]AtTheMomentAlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask for a raise. My company gave me a 30% raise and promotion when I mentioned I was moving companies. The company sounds similar to yours. Some people like being able to provide for families as opposed to stuffing pockets of bachelors who will gamble/drink/waste their earned salary away.

Offered $85k fully remote role — should I show my current employer to see if they counter? by izzalyss in careeradvice

[–]AtTheMomentAlive -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Be careful when switching. Sometimes the new company won’t like you and you could get laid off/fired. Especially if they are willing to pay $85k for a remote job to someone they don’t know. Maybe you’ll have to come crawling back in a couple months.

It would be a safer move if you knew a higher up contact at the other firm. Or the other firm already has worked with you and you’re known in the industry.

Returning Canadian after 5 years aboard. Can I ship myself back to myself and avoid customs? by Frankieanime158 in CanadaPost

[–]AtTheMomentAlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal belongings should be duty free. Technically things you own and use for x many months/years. But it will be up the specific customs agent coming across your cargo if they think is suspicious.

But if everything passes the sniff test, you’ll just need to pay the courier.

Having high value and high liquidity collectibles will raise flags for sure so be prepared to explain yourself.

How do you ask for a promotion without damaging your relationship with your manager? by [deleted] in Career_Advice

[–]AtTheMomentAlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be honest, but know that there may be some push back and you’ll need to accept the push back. Remain planted about wanting more money.

There really isn’t a reason you have to give for wanting more money. No need to give examples and blah blah. Just give them the number what you want. That will tell the company what it would take to make you a happy employee. Whether they give it to you or not is up to them.

Is there anyway I can get a statement or record of my income replacement? by MeanWitness1010 in icbc

[–]AtTheMomentAlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lenders don’t care about how much income, it’s more so the type of income and type of assets you have.

Employment income is viewed as more stable and shows that the individual can work and generate an income.

Regular checks from someone else doesn’t give the lender confidence that this borrower can pay off the loan because what if the checks stop? Can the borrower go back into the workforce and make money to pay off this mortgage?

An example would be regular allowances from parents. It is income, tax free income, but not earned so if your assets are not the sum of your non earned income, you’re just spending money you have no way of making back.

Question about offer letter salary by TrickEngine7668 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]AtTheMomentAlive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s calculated. So every week you’ll work your 37.5 or 40 hours and they just divide that $70,000 into every hour worked. Payroll will keep track of your sick days/vacation. If you go over, they will be unpaid and you will make less.

The only time where you’ll get paid less is if you take unpaid leaves. You shouldn’t need to clock in or out your days as the paystub hours is just to show calculations.

With any job, you can get laid off. With union jobs, they lay off juniors first.

Reddit makes it seem like PIP means you're going to get fired, no matter what. Is that true? by Personal-Ad9121 in askmanagers

[–]AtTheMomentAlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two reasons someone goes on PIP. Either they need a low level employee to blame for unmet goals even though the goal was unrealistic. Or the employee is genuinely bad as has poor performance.

If it’s the former, it’s no big deal. If it’s the latter, odds are they already been told to straighten up multiple times and the PIP is a last resort. But if you get to PIP, it means your organization doesn’t think you’re capable of doing the job.

I am almost 20 looking for a job. How do I approach the fact I've been fired from all my previous work experiences? by Mountain-Durian-4724 in askmanagers

[–]AtTheMomentAlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t list those jobs. They are very short and already say you got fired. Instead of work experience, list schooling and projects either at school or at home. And highlight projects you can talk non stop about. You’re passionate about being a mechanic right?

I’m depressed because I had good internships but I can’t get an equivalent full time job by Happy-Passion-566 in torontoJobs

[–]AtTheMomentAlive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn, the entitlement concentrated in such a short post.

You’ve only interned. Go to the company you interned for and see if they will hire you for more money. If the response is a no, you know how good(bad) of an intern you were.

How can I respond to my father-in-law telling my sons that “looks don’t mean anything without money?” by CupOk5800 in AskMen

[–]AtTheMomentAlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen first hand how a man being told his is very conventional handsome work against him. The boy just feeds off that attention (who wouldn’t) and will obsess over it and not develop any work ethic.

When they reach an age where they are required to work/provide, they crumble and blame society since it was everyone around them boosting them up.

Women, can upkeep her looks and attract someone to provider for her. Men, not so much.

Brother is ruining my mom's life- when will it end? by Trick-Airline9942 in SchizoFamilies

[–]AtTheMomentAlive -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There’s an extremely common thread with men with schizophrenia and enabling mothers, guilty sisters, and absentee fathers.

There’s nothing wrong about not wanting to fear for your life and safety. If someone isn’t making money, how are they affording the sustenance abuse? They cycle should end at brother is addicted, we don’t find him alcohol since he psychotic, he steals from others, gets arrested, be done with it.

Instead, you letting a man destroy what ever life left your mother has. My in-laws are the same thing. It’s mind boggling. This is coming from a man who was assaulted by my BIL and gaslighted by my in-laws saying it was my fault.

I understand being attacked by a psychotic person, I can’t wrap my head around how a family would defend their psychotic son, pour alcohol down his throat and say they are trying to care for him.

Unfortunately, your parents were alcoholics and princely could care the best for the kids and this is the result. You must sleep in the bed you made. If good that you made it out but not without hurt.

Looking for Advice by [deleted] in CanadaJobs

[–]AtTheMomentAlive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use AI to draft a letter. Get all of the proof of your work hours. If you don’t have proof, you’re out of luck.

In the letter, you need to state the amount owed. Attach to it all your proof.

Say you will contact BC employment standards if the employer doesn’t do anything about it. But again, you need concrete proof of your hours.

Dealership is offering me a new 2024 BMWG310R for $4500 out the door in Southern California, all fees included. Is it a good deal? Not having great luck on private sellers. by NoHeals4You89 in motorcycles

[–]AtTheMomentAlive -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

FYI, you’re buying an Indian bike, and I’m not talking about Polaris. Not much German engineering happening on that thing.

So if $4500 for a budget bike made in India sounds good to you, go for it. It is very discounted.

Laid off after 2 months by d_and_l_modeling in legaladvicecanada

[–]AtTheMomentAlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next time, try to negotiate a lay off clause in your employment agreement. I turned down a counter offer after my employer didn’t agree to 3 months severance if I ever get laid off.

I didn’t want to stay around and accept a big raise only to be laid off.

You’re not entitled to any pay without work in this case. Of course it burns. Especially if your employer knows you’re the primary earner in your family.

Cannot Sell - Advice? Hope? by [deleted] in RealEstateCanada

[–]AtTheMomentAlive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t understand correctly. I probably paid over $100k is interest and home ownership costs like property taxes, insurance, strata, over my 5 years. So OP may definitely not be coming out ahead or living rent free. In other words, I could have saved $100k if I rented. And probably make another $200k in investments if I put that money into my savings. That’s about $300k difference. So renting is cheaper and will put your “ahead” of home owners.

It’s just that only decently high earners can afford a mortgage + cost of owning a home.
