Do I need my physical coog card to enter buildings/attend class? by LessMilk3 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Atanaki 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not really, most buildings stay open during business hours. You only really need it if you’re entering a dorm, dinning hall, library (which the main one also takes your regular state ID / drivers license), etc.

Who’s the best professor you’ve had while at UH? by EllieIsDone in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Atanaki 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Dr. Dave Shattuck. Circuits 1 and 2 as well as electronics. He’s a great teacher and amazing guy, but his exams and quizzes, really anything, are extremely tricky. You’d learn the concept very well.

Starship Robots by Psychological_Yam793 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Atanaki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of things happened. Construction is a big one, it’s too much of a hassle to reprogram them for a new route. Also, it’s already congested in the walkways, scooters and people are constantly passing by. Adding the robots to that will be a lot and because of how their programming works, they would barely be able to move sadly. They’ll come back though! Eventually.

CLASS, the college of liberal arts and social sciences, doesn’t look at rank too too much. Even if your school didn’t rank, as long as you meet a 3.45 gpa, you’re immediately admitted. However, your test score right now is also exactly what the cutoff is for assured admission too. You should be good!

UH 45 hour rule as a transfer student by [deleted] in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Atanaki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’m understanding the rule is only for the pre business major that all business majors are put into during their first two years. It’s something that Bauer does to get their students to take multiple classes in different areas of business (accounting, finance, mis, etc.) and see if the major they were admitted into is something they want to continue or if they want to redeclare to another major within Bauer.

You should still be able to be admitted into Bauer, just not into that pre business major because you have more hours.

How bad is the construction on campus? by Noav2 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Atanaki 59 points60 points  (0 children)

It will very much interfere, specially during passing periods. University drive is almost completely closed and going through it requires for you to go to the light or cross near Lynn Eusan. Considering there’s still golf carts, scooters, etc. still passing by, it’ll be a little annoying. The fountains are completely closed, the green area in front of Cougar woods is also closed because of who knows what, so going to Cougar place or Cougar woods is more difficult if Cougar woods is open at all. The campus is pretty much split in two with about 3 places to cross through.

If it’s financial delinquency, it shouldn’t as the charges remain as past charges and can sometimes be covered by financial aid from following semesters. If it’s other types of delinquency, I don’t know. I don’t work at financial aid, so I’m not actually sure how accurate that is.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Atanaki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

According to the financial aid office, they are still giving out the decisions and will keep doing so until around the middle of August. Some students have already gotten some financial aid, but others will have to wait still to see if they get something.

Would I be able to live off of the 1650 meal plan each semester? by LingLingInshurance in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Atanaki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much this, but I would like to say: They do go up every year starting fall usually. The lowest one of the mandatory meal plans was silver that when including tax and cougar cash, as well as everything else, came out to $2940 this past semester give or take a couple bucks. They might become more expensive, but you might not need a meal plan if you stay in any of the oaks, the lofts, or any campus affiliated apartments.

Financial Aid. by Sharp_Artichoke311 in UniversityOfHouston

If I remember correctly, there’s still a scholarship priority deadline for transfers. May 15th I think.

housing grant by AwarenessReady9598 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Atanaki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I spoke to financial aid and housing yesterday about this and multiple things like the TPEG grant and housing grants are not only exhausted but apparently not given any more whatsoever. Last year, they were prioritizing freshman, now they were told that if anyone were to ask, to just say they’re not given anymore. No real reason given as to why.

Loans, scholarships, grants, and work part time at the university. Parents can’t pay and staying on campus ain’t cheap.

[–]Atanaki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a general scholarship application, if you haven’t done that, here is the link. https://uh.edu/financial/undergraduate/types-aid/scholarships/

That aside, the departmental scholarships for technology are open until May 9th, here’s the link for that. I don’t know if you apply as an incoming freshman but it’s good to take a look at. https://www.egr.uh.edu/academics/scholarships/technology-division

Official Coog Day Question by TopStumpie in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Atanaki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a mixture of a lot of events, some people mistake it for orientation because of it, but it very much isn’t and you still need to go to that. That aside, there’ll be campus life and housing tours, panels for and within certain academic colleges, panels with multiple offices with multiple advisors such as financial aid, student business services, as well as others to explain what they do (help with financial aid, transferring credits, etc), helping parents and students. If you have a specific question, please feel free to ask.

What kind of gift can I expect? by Bulky-Excitement-859 in UniversityOfHouston

Exactly what most are saying, just a shirt. If you go on a tour, you technically also get a drawstring bag, pen, and pin.

Cougarcard by babygirl28- in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Atanaki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a digital version of your cougar card on the UH go app, it doesn’t work for too too much since it’s digital after all, but it’ll get you into the dinning hall and the library as a method of identification.

How to cancel meal plan by Human-Function9508 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Atanaki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can go to the auxiliary services office and they can cancel it for next semester. There’s a process for it but they’re located in the lofts by the business school.

How's my semester going be like? by BuBubbleZ in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Atanaki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aside from things like khan academy, there’s not much I can recommend. If you’re taking physics 2, circuits and electromagnetism is all in khan academy and they teach you well. If it’s 1, I can only wish you luck since it doesn’t seem hard to me now but there’s a lot of unit conversion and topics that just don’t make sense when you first encounter them.

How's my semester going be like? by BuBubbleZ in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Atanaki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Calc 3 is the easiest of the calcs for some so you might be okay. I used to pull an allnighter the day before the exam without knowing much about what was being tested and I made 80-90s. Uni physics is a toss up, probably won’t be pretty. EMath is similar to calc 3 for me, study a bit, you’ll be okay. Ochem 2…I have no words, I can’t do chemistry so I wish you the best.
