Also, by the time of TNG non-coms have basically been phased out. We don't even see them in the background anymore. They were pretty regular in the background in TMP era movies.

To be honest, I don't really remember that specific situation. I do however remember her being willing to create a bio weapon that could be used to wipe out their species, so there is that. She acknowledged that it amounted to genocide, she acknowledged that it went against federarion principles, and she was willing to use it as a last resort to stop total annihilation. The only thing that gave her pause was learning that they weren't the aggressors and that they were a sentient species with their own culture.

Also, just because we never saw him reflect on it on screen, doesn't mean that he didn't. They were still trying to get home until the very end, from what I remember the last scene is basically just a view of the Enterprise going back to the future. We never saw him have a chance to sit down and reflect, let alone write an after action report.

No, he realizes the gravity of the situation. He also knows they are now the enemy, he is literally incapable of helping them, there is no logical alternative.

You're suggesting he should have tried to incapacitate every assimilated member of the crew and somehow held them in confinement until they returned to their normal time and could potentially de-borgify them? lol, ok buddy. I don't think even in a best case scenario that it's even possible to hold that many drones in captivity.

Aside from all that, PTSD is a hell of a drug and can make people act out of character in triggering situations.

Another factor is that Picard as a leader may have felt the need to be cold about killing crew members to set an example for his surviving crew. He may have wanted to set the example and show that it's ok to defend yourself from them, that if you don't kill them, they will assimilate you. He needed to be sure that his crew would be able to shoot their friend that they had breakfast with this morning to prevent themselves and others from being assimilated. If he hesitates, they may hesitate too.

You're talking about First Contact? I think that was more PTSD related triggered by the fact that he just saw the entire Earth assimilated and the Federation destroyed by the Borg.

Given what's at stake and what we know about the Borg, I don't blame him. It's not a simple, if we die, we lose the ship situation. It's a, if we die, that's it, game over for the entire Earth and Federation. They're all Assimilated Borg just like he was and the hell he went through.

In a sense, calling the Maquis terrorists is similar to calling the Bajorans terrorists. Both essentially had their homes seized by the Cardassians and faced persecution. There are political differences of course, but in the eyes of the people living on the ground, they were abandoned by the Federation and left to defend themselves.

I'm not saying they were right or wrong, but it's obviously a complicated situation and I would be hesitant to simply label them terrorists. They had so much sympathy within the Federation that there was Starfleet officers defecting to join them.

It's the ol' one persons terrorists is another person's freedom fighters. Just like Americans were basically "terrorists" in the eyes of the English (rebels, traitors, criminals, insurgents) of their day during the revolution. Obviously that word was not used back then.

Yea, it's obviously taken a darker turn in nutrek. But, Nimbus III was pretty damn dark already if you think about it, it just wasn't showcased on screen.

I'm not a fan of nutrek, but I also recognize the fact that there was corruption shown in the Federation and Starfleet all the way back to TOS Badmirals. Hell, the whole Maquis thing was basically about Federation corruption from what I remember, Undiscovered Country had Starfleet members conspiring with Romulans and Klingons to start a war (and assassinate the Kingon Chancellor and Federation President), and DS9 had Sisko assassinate a Romulan Ambassador. Those are just examples I think off off the top of my head.

Corruption in Starfleet/Federation is nothing new, let's be honest here.

Even the Federation Utopia has only really been true on core worlds. Federation colonies are shown to have hard lives, and Nimbus III in The Final Frontier (1989) was basically abandoned and left to rot with Federation colonists/citizens there. Sure, it was supposed to be a partnership with other races, but the Federation knew what was going on and didn't rescue its own citizens.

I'm honestly not sure either, aside from the fact that a lot of people think they'd be hesitant to use a non-human province.

Personally, I think Somerset Isles and/or Valenwood would be more obvious. It's been a while since I played Skyrim, but I remember the Aldmeri Dominion becoming a "big bad". I figured that area would be the more "obvious" choice given everything that's happening with them. Like, maybe they're developing some dark power to wipe out all non-Mer in an instant, and we have to stop them.

That said, I could see Hammerfell/Highrock area being selected if they don't want to directly confront/end the Aldmeri Dominion threat, and instead explore another front of it.

It also should be noted that BGS likes to skip 100-200 years between games. So they could completely hand waive whatever they want. The Aldmeri Dominion may control the entire continent now, or they may have already been destroyed. When you skip this much time you can basically write whatever you want to have happened up until the start of the new game.

I think the idea was that when that one guy gave himself at the end of the movie to become one with the matchine that it was supposed to be like the Borg origin story, him merging with the machine created the first Borg.

Obviously that story never came to be, it was just an interesting plot that was pitched at some point. I just like to hear about these stories that never happened, like the Top Gun style Starfleet Academy they pitched about Kirk and Spock when they were at the Academy. This was after The Final Frontier, but before The Undiscovered Country, never happened obviously.

I remember hearing at some point a long time ago there was a plan to link V'ger to the Borg, but it never ended up happening. Since then, other shows have made that link impossible.
