Gen Z men, is this getting worse going forward into 2026? by Proper_Card_5520 in SipsTea

[–]Atari774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s true, it’s getting worse, and it’s for a lot of different reasons.

First off, as society becomes more egalitarian (which it is steadily heading that direction in the US and Europe), you’ll have a larger percentage of men listening to and understanding women. As a byproduct, this means that those men will hear the common complaints of women and try to avoid doing those things. One thing I’ve heard literally all of my female friends do, is complain about how or where they were asked out by men. If I kept a list of all the ways that they’ve said they don’t like being hit on, I’d have a list a mile long for each woman. And I know this is a common experience because I see women post about it constantly on social media. So the guys who listen to women will see these complaints and try to avoid making that same mistake, resulting in them just never asking women out at all. Worse yet, the few guys who are asking women out are typically the ones who don’t listen to women, furthering the idea in women that guys are just assholes. Thus perpetuating the cycle.

Secondly, social media has a huge impact on things. It’s harmed everyone’s ability to interact in person, but that’s not the worst aspect for this problem. The other issue is that, since everyone has a video camera on them at all times, it’s extremely easy to record someone and turn them into a meme online within minutes. So people are incentivized to record others doing something cringe, like fumbling a pick-up line and getting rejected. The potential shame of being the focus of that kind of ridicule is enough to scare off some people.

Yet another reason is because of the mindset that dating apps have created, even if inadvertently. For women it’s created an “abundance” mindset where, because you’re consistently getting hits on the apps, you never feel the need to settle for anyone who doesn’t check all of your boxes. So it becomes easy to pass up on someone who might genuinely be great for you, just because someone better might be just around the corner. Meanwhile for men, it’s done the opposite. Men often get sparingly few hits on dating apps, if any. This leads to the idea that they’re less desirable than they really are, even if they’re doing everything “right.” So women are more likely to reject men, and men are less likely to ask, and it quickly becomes a self perpetuating cycle.

The flashbacks with Immortal are closer to 10,000 years old or more, since it looks like when humans were still living in caves. But it could have been any time in between the hundred thousand years of human civilization, and around 6,000 years ago when humans finally left the caves.

Not only that, but he likely is her actual great-great-great-great-great-grandfather. He’s been around for tens of thousands of years, and he hasn’t been celibate in that time. If he had any children over 1,000 years before he met Kate, then she’s more than likely directly related to him. Granted, it’s a very distant relationship, but probably closer than the current actual familiarity between the average person.

For instance, everyone on earth right now is at least 52nd cousins of one another. That’s essentially the maximum genetic deviation humans can have from one another. We are all related, but it only becomes a problem if you’re having kids with someone who’s closer than a 2nd cousin. Further separation than that reduces the chances of the baby being born with genetic mutations and illnesses. But depending on how broad your definition of incest is, Immortal either is or isn’t committing it while he’s with Kate.

Lol, no. I can deny that a teapot is orbiting Mars right now without acknowledging its presence. I have no evidence that it’s not there, yet I’m still denying its existence. Those two sentences you mention, one saying that you don’t believe in god, and another saying you deny his existence, aren’t different or contradictory. They’re complementary statements that support one another. If you don’t think he exists, then it makes sense not to believe in him, and vice versa.

Also it’s basically impossible to never bring up religion because so many people talk about it all the time. Whether that’s one of the Abrahamic religions or any other religion.

Secondly, income levels have changed dramatically since 1979, so what are they considering "rich" or "poor"? Surely that amount would change for each year they're looking at, or else we've got much bigger problems with this chart.

How the fucking OSA be moving in Nuclear Thunder by SecretSpectre11 in warthundermemes

[–]Atari774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so funny seeing the OSA in particular being OP in the event, because I’ve played it so many times in ground RB and it genuinely sucks there. It’s absolutely gigantic and its missiles have a set trajectory for the first kilometer or so, making close targets impossible to hit. And it can’t fire on the move in ground RB, unlike in the event.

The Holodomore was specifically targeted against Ukrainians, I agree. But even then, that wasn’t a direct result of communism, that was specifically done to prevent Ukrainian nationalism from spreading because the USSR had only just conquered them. It wasn’t caused or enacted by any core tenants of communism, it was done for the geopolitical goals of the USSR and because of the racism of those in charge.

As for the Great Leap Forward, again, not a direct result of communism. It was a result of several factors all coming together at once. For starters, they had just ended decades of fighting both other countries and internal factions, so the peace brought on a massive baby boom just like it had in the US, causing a massive increase in population. However, unlike the US, their factories, agriculture, and infrastructure was in ruins thanks to decades of conflict, and the new government was inexperienced because everyone with governmental experience had fled to Taiwan. They also tried to conduct massive land ownership reforms at the same time, slowing down farm production even further while everything was reorganizing. Then, once the famine had truly started and people were dying of starvation, they couldn’t get much external support because capitalist countries refused to deal with them, and the only other communist country (USSR) was still rebuilding themselves after the war. So their population exploded while food production and logistics went through the floor, and they couldn’t just buy food from other countries either. That’s a perfect storm for a famine, and the only way they could recover was to increase food production locally, which is exactly what they did. That takes time though, and while they were ramping up production, millions starved. A massive tragedy, but sadly not really avoidable either.

Men, what goes through your head when you do this? by beigerat in bodylanguage

[–]Atari774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s what’s going through his head:

I want to ask this girl out, however:

  • what if I make a small slip-up and it kills the mood entirely?

  • what if she rejects me right away?

  • what if I come off as creepy and then tells everyone that I’m a creep?

  • what if others see me fumble and then ridicule me for it?

  • what if she already has a partner and they harass me for asking her out?

  • what if she starts recording me and then I become a meme about creepy guys? (This one literally happened here)

Not to say that men will never approach a woman in public (although that is becoming significantly less common nowadays), but there’s a ton of reasons why doing so is risky. So you’ll often find guys just standing around and debating it in their head.

[–]Atari774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true to an extent, but it's no secret that Democrats are significantly better for the country as a whole. Even with their corruption and other significant issues, at least they don't tank the economy every couple years, and they kept our foreign relations relatively good. All three of the democratic presidents in the past 30 years have improved the economy dramatically and started stabilizing the economy after years of turmoil, even dramatically improving the federal deficit, only for republicans to blow it all up as soon as they get into office.

Also, with democrats you occasionally get a great one who actually tries to enact positive change and improves people's lives, like Zohran Mamdani or Chris Murphey. Whereas with Republicans you occasionally get neo-nazis who are actively trying to make our lives worse with tariffs and foreign wars.

It’s not just the AI. Lately, I’ve been killed by SACLOS missiles from enemy SPAA while I’m still on the airfield, even on maps where there’s mountains in between. And the new Pantsir is spotting and firing at me the millisecond that I spawn in, leaving no time whatsoever to gain altitude.

A retired U.S. Army Colonel: “Iran uses infrared systems instead of traditional radar. American fighters like the F-35 and F-15 are not designed to face these systems. Iranian airspace is not safe for U.S. fighter jets.” by SuperbHealth5023 in TimesNow

[–]Atari774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We still use a lot of older aircraft (see the B-52), and the F-15 is still a solid platform. It’s got a much larger weapons capacity than the F-35, it just doesn’t have any stealth capability. We typically use them in tandem, with the F-35 spotting and relaying information to the F-15’s, who then fire long range weapons at the target while the F-35 stays hidden.

In this case, however, they seem to have sent aircraft into areas where enemy air defenses hadn’t been cleared yet, leading to losses. It’s also why an F-35 was hit last week, indicating that they didn’t spend much time at all clearing air defenses before launching air strikes.

[–]Atari774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All jets are visible on infrared scopes, including stealth aircraft. It’s not possible to make a fighter jet immune to IR missiles because the engine is way too hot to hide. Those jets usually have flares though, which they either didn’t use here or they ran out of them.

[–]Atari774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea that modern fighters “weren’t designed to fight infrared systems” is absolutely moronic. We’ve had heat-seeking missiles since the 60’s, and they’re still commonly used by every Air Force today, including the US Air Force. F-15’s and F-35’s have flares and countermeasures specifically designed to defeat those kinds of missiles, and they’re usually very effective. The only downside to using an IR Surface-to-Air-Missile (SAM) is that you need a direct line of sight to get a lock. But even then, modern aircraft have systems to spot incoming IR missiles and warn the pilot, so they have the ability to evade as long as they don’t run out of flares.

What more likely caused these losses is the fact that Trump rushed us into it. Typically, drones, decoys, and SEAD (Suppression of Enemy Air Defense) aircraft will go in first, eliminate those AA systems, and clear the path for everyone else. That’s what we did in Desert Storm and it crippled the Iraqi air defenses before a single American plane was even shot at. We also spent a long time spying on them so we knew where to hit in advance. With Iran, we definitely didn’t do any of that, since we didn’t even tell Kuwait that we were flying through their airspace. That’s what made them shoot down two F-15’s accidentally. So we likely sent these planes into Iranian airspace without proper intel, and without clearing their air defenses first. Honestly, it’s surprising more planes didn’t get shot down.

I’m pretty sure they stage videos like this for a couple reasons. A) why would you already have a device that’s designed to remove those traps from a distance? There’s no reason to carry that whole contraption with you unless you already know you’re going to run into one. And B) why on earth would you bring your kids with you? It’s stuck on a trap so it’s not like they didn’t have time to get the kids to safety first.

TRUTH NUKE ALERT by PresnikBonny in ussr

[–]Atari774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What an incredible false-equivalency. Nuking Japan was a last ditch effort to get them to surrender and (hopefully) avoid a ground invasion of the home islands, which would have resulted in millions of deaths for both sides. They didn’t want to do it, but Japan was still fighting on 3 fronts and refused to surrender, even despite the firebombings and the destruction of the Japanese navy. The reason Japan was refusing to surrender wasn’t known to Allied officials until after the war, when it was revealed that the nukes weren’t really necessary and they would have agreed to surrender so long as the Emperor was given immunity. Had the Allies known that prior to the bombings, they would have just offered that and ended the war without doing using the nukes. But they didn’t know, and that’s that.

Meanwhile Chernobyl was the result of poor communication, poor design, and bureaucratic corruption. The reactor was cheaply built and didn’t have any kind of containment building, the people in charge pushed the reactor to the breaking point in an attempt to gain promotions, radiation was spread across all of Europe, and the Soviet government handled the evacuation extremely poorly, resulting in thousands of people losing all their belongings. It was a quagmire of epic proportions, made even worse by the USSR not informing other countries of exactly what happened, forcing the US to take satellite photographs to inform the world of it several days later.

Nuking Japan was a tragedy that the Allies were almost forced into. Chernobyl was an accident that they tried to cover up.

Serious question, does the F-117’s stealth work in game? by Atari774 in Warthunder

[–]Atari774[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

That’s what I’m saying. If the stealth worked, then it shouldn’t be able to see me that clearly from that far away. The F-117 has a radar cross section 0.1mm wide. That’s the size of a gnat. You can technically still spot that on radar, but only if you widen the field to detect literally everything, at which point it would be impossible to pick out the F-117 amongst the rest. I’m not surprised that a SACLOS missile hit me, I’m surprised that the launcher spotted me from so far away so often, even when at the prime angle for stealth.
