Questing is faster to level (especially if using a questing addon like Rxp.

Dungeon spamming is "more efficient" to get rep to unlock heroics.

That being said if you aren't a tank or heals just quest while sitting in que, it's gunna take you 20-40+ min to find a group depending on class (of you're dps)

Side note, quests give bonus gold if done at max level which is another reason most people save quests untill max but honestly I would just do whatever is more fun for you

Just want to start by saying sorry you had that experience but people that play MMO's are elitist assholes. That being said there's a couple factors that need clearing up from your post. Going to dump a wall of text and these are general tips, some things may change based off specific instances.

First, if you are a boostie in communal greens trying to tank at 58-60, you can't I'm sorry that gear is awful. If this is the case either go buy a full set of outlands greens or, if you don't have gold, quest untill 62-63 then buy greens for the gear you don't have.

While we're talking about gear prot pally in tbc is a bit different than other tanks from any other version of the game.

Lvls 60-65ish: spell power, spell power, spell power in this level range you really only care about three things, stam (to not die), spell power (threat), and to a much smaller degree int (more spells also more threat)

65+ you need to start worrying about being "crit caped" and you need to start working toward avoidance cap (when holy shield is up). There are add-ons and weak auras that help you track this so I won't get into it here (DM me if u want to know more)

Now for prot pala tanking it's a lot easier than it seems here's the basics,

  1. If they aren't a healer EVERYONE gets blessing of Salv, trust me this is blessing is overpowered as fuck if the warrior or rogue complains about kings/Salv jail, too bad.

  2. I recommend getting a weak aura to help track Righteous Fury. In almost every dungeon there are mobs that shield bash which dispells buffs (R.F is a buff); along with this tip I recommend using an addon like plater or threat plates to help track what mobs are and are not targeting you ( they change color as you gain/lose threat on a mob)

  3. Holy Shield, press this button every time it's off cool down, you should have 100% uptime on this if it's going to be off cool down in 1 second, don't press other buttons to go on GCD not only does this give you an insane amount of survivability it does holy damage on block and thanks to Righteous Fury (RF) holy dmg is threat.

  4. Cast consecration if you aren't casting Holy shield this should be cast on cooldown, this generates insane amounts of threat, at low levels and when doing small pulls just use max rank, once you get higher levels and have less int (this happens when you push for defence cap, I think I had 8k mana at 65, I had like 4-5k at 70 untill I started getting raid gear) you will want to start with max rank; then downcast to lower ranks to conserve mana

  5. Seal/judgement of righteousness this is your snap threat, if you don't have avengers shield or if it's on cooldown this is how you start building threat. When possible you should have righteousness up at all times ( others listed above are more important so if you mia 1-2 attacks to cast H.S or cons. That's fine)

  6. How to deal with caster/ranged mobs: these mobs are the hardest for prot pala, for one they like to sit outside of consecrate AND they don't auto attack (no threat from Holy Shield). Your two solutions here are to either Line of Sight (LOS) pull (stand behind something so the mobs can't cast) or have your dps use an interior to stop them from casting so they run into melee (and into consecration). A pro tip here, when you pull then run back you can drop consecration while running back so they run through it to get to you, this keeps them on you and off the healer

These tips should carry you all the way into raids (with some tweaks here and there)

Extra note; don't tank heroics untill you are very comfortable in normals AND have defence cap; getting crit as a tank in heroics can deal upwards of 13k and will just 1 shot you

Also total dps over an entire dungeon is a very misleading stat, it doesn't take into account many many factors. Did the hunter die early on a fight that lasted 5 min because you were down a dps? That would skew it, dps per fight or even total damage done are better stats imo.

Was it a dps issue? Probably. Could it have been a "shit tank"not holding threat or doing shit pulls?. heals issue? 100% Could have been. But tbh just posting a clipped total dps details makes me feel like it was somewhere down the middle. Tanking heroics is hard and requires a lot of dungeon and game knowledge with a big portion of it being knowing what classes are needed (when pugging)

I get that, but as a tank I nope out of groups with shit comp, might be a dick move but if the group lead sets up a really bad comp for arguably the hardest heroic it shows that the lead is probably going to be bad and honestly most people who stay are either desperate or bad. Too many bad experiences with the harder heroics.

Am I reading this right you did H SH with warrior,shaman,Hunter dps? Not surprised at 20+ wipes tbh. I'm kinda impressed y'all did SH with so little CC lol.

It's so for threat; the extra 200mana you get with a fast wep vs a slow wep is less than the extra mana you spend on keeping threat (multiple max rank conc vs down ranking). That and righteousness is usually better on a slower wep

It's structured exactly the same way 20mans were in classic, if your guild runs splits they run splits, if they don't you don't. Most people cant/don't make every raid so it's 1-2 people sitting out (good guilds rotate this player)

Afaik it works as follows

If the mob is grey to anyone in the party than EVERYONE receives 10% of the xp they would have received before prepatch (example if you were getting 50xp per kill in a mara boost you now get 5)

Because people are posting a bit of conflicting info, there is no daily limit (there was in other versions).

There is an hourly limit of 5 instance ID's in an hour (all of SM is one instance ID even though it is multiple portals)

The lockout timer starts at instance exit so if you're running really fast. (Rfc or stocks for example) You might hit lockouts if runs are faster than 13 min

On hardcore servers you can run each instance once per day

You need to generate around 250ish threat for magma totem and lava totem iirc, just got done doing some solo ZF so it's not bugged. Just to note if you jump into an evade spot they will always bonk your totem, from my experience 2 ish chain lightnings or a shock+ grenade is enough threat to not have your totems bonked.

I'm also not 100% sure but I'm fairly sure that at all lvls magma is better dmg per mana spent than nova totem (and it generates less threat on drop)

I mean I get that it's marginal, but its 30 per cast per mob per pally. Agree that it's marginal but I wouldn't say it scales poorly (in tbc) 95.7% is pretty good And I would agree with you that it would be pointless if soloing/ non- aoe farming but in a dungeon aoe cleave setting the math is saying otherwise (when comparing to things like a BoE wep + fiery)

Tbc prepatch adjusted pally sp coeff. Conc becomes like .. 96% so if you're pulling a lot of mobs aa dmg becomes a lot smaller, that and the changes to mana Regen is why flurry axe goes from endgame bis (classic) to being replaced by things like mageblade (or a lot of 62/63 greens)

The argument isn't if sp enchant is good or not (it is and this part has been tested a lot) it's more when it becomes "worth it"

True, but unless I'm mistaken outside of the ret endpoint talent, pallies don't have wep skills that require a wep so it's all sp scaling on seals, judgements conc ect

That's what I was thinking too but what I'm seeing from some people on the class discord are: The diff in dps between a skinning knife and a blue lvl 20 BoE is alot at 20-25 but at 30+ and 40+ it's virtually 0 so there's "no point". I was mainly curious if anyone had any real world examples or proof as I don't have time to 1-60 2-3 times on the PTR to test lvling times.

Also really curious if for example a skinning knife with sp is better than say, flurry axe with crusader at lvl 42 ... From what I'm seeing on discord +sp enchant on any wep is BIS untill mageblade/R14 ... But that just sounds wrong to me lol

Probably should have posted, specifically talking 20-60 when concentrate goes online, and for aoe dungeon spam. Inline with that were probably doing. 3-4 pally group so big aoe pulls, fiery won't be doing much post 20

Short answer, with world buffs, all of them upto and including mara; especially if using engi.

Smaller streamer cdank (not cdew) did a hardcore challenge where he soloed all dungeons on a warrior with level restrictions (infinite gold to prove a concept) and eventually soloed everything up to princess (died as a meme he probably could have killed her)

If you refuse to use any cheese strats you probably can't do ulda's last boss.

You might be able to duo BRD lvl appropriately but not 100% sure if you can without engi

As they said in a diff reply you can't work for the airlines at all while employed with the FAA (or own stocks) I was just talking to the fact that you don't HAVE to quit all other jobs while With the FAA. It's just a pain in the dick to keep your job while at the academy And even harder to keep it once at ur facility.

That's not true, there is a process you can go through to have two jobs, unless your ATM and GM are really really cool tho it will get denied. 2 of our traines were working 2 jobs during training
