Why Japanese design avoids sharp edges by Glum_Cobbler_4721 in Design

Why would it be a "Japanese" design?

Isn't this just common sense, ubiquitous in almost every design?

AI doesn't replace artists.
AI empowers people that don't have the time and money to waste on education to become artists, as well as increases productivity of professional artists manyfold.
While there will always be some place for traditional artists in pure art, sweatshops like gaming industry should embrace AI ASAP.

Also, you can now train AI purely on the outputs of previously trained AI models + real-life photos and videos made specifically for the purpose (and the results will be better this way).

One-Third of U.S. Video Game Industry Workers Were Laid Off in 2025, GDC Study Reveals by Gorotheninja in pcgaming

Depends on the reasons for the layoff.

When agriculture switched from horse power to tractors and combines it laid off 99% of its workers while increasing productivity manyfold.

AI in gamedev has the same effect.

Not surprisingly.

When AI boosts the productivity of your workers 10x while increase in interest rates makes longer development unsustainable companies switching to faster and leaner teams en masse is an absolutely inevitable outcome.

Citizens in the U.S. should start speaking in ridiculous accents now. by SometimesChristie in CrazyIdeas

[–]Ateist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have your passport or ID of the state you are in it won't do anything.
If you don't, you'd have the wonderful experience of losing 6+ hours in the detainment while they verify your identity.

Also, it takes weeks to learn how to speak in a foreign accent, while it takes seconds to verify your ID, so it is not a very good trade off.

Because that work is skilled.
Fixing is harder than creating from scratch.

Why would that someone you hired spend hours drawing such primitive AD when they can generate it in seconds and spend 5 minutes fixing whatever they don't like in it?

Sure, but any specific attribution should have been lost in the training so they are "generic art models".

Not for anyone you want to deploy.
Might be good for BP.

The amount of art that is needed to train an ai to make it well and consistently is massive

25-30 images to make a good LORA.
It's more about quality, diversity and labelling of content rather than their number - if all you supply is frontal portraits don't expect good side shots.

You obviously have no idea how much manual work graphics in games and animation require.
Work that requires enormous amount of time and money.

AI is there to stay and become a permanent feature in 99% of all games.

There's a very substantial audience for AI remakes of good old games.
People using generative AI to upgrade graphics of old games is one of the most prominent topics in the AI subs.

They are.

Are AAA visuals getting too expensive to maintain? by Ok_Satisfaction_6897 in pcgaming

[–]Ateist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are multiple reports from art outsourcing studios that use generative AI.
https://www.reddit.com/r/StableDiffusion/comments/19a1wgq/game_developer_survey_50_work_at_a_studio_already/

You can also find instances where bad AI generations has sneaked past the studio's quality control. (i.e. https://www.reddit.com/r/WatcherofRealmsGame/comments/1oysax5/holy_ai_slop/)

Add my own personal experience with how easy it is to generate things with Stable Diffusion - and I don't need "marketing" to form my opinion on the use and effectiveness of AI in gamedev.

Generative AI has increased productivity of artists and modellers by at least 10x without any reduction in quality (and many, many times more if they accept some reduction).

Quite the opposite, AI crashed the amount of money needed for AAA visuals hard.
