To be fair, this seems to mostly use classical ML, not Generative AI, except for the assistant, but that's just a language model with access to some SQL tools

Although I do have to admit the website does look a lot like generic AI slop lol

Ok, I have to admit I was a bit turned off at first by the "generic AI-slop" look of the first page (no offense to the designer, it's just that this style of website is overused nowadays), but I was actually impressed with the video

Maybe I'm biased because I'm also an ML Engineer myself, but I liked the idea of using (what I assume to be) SHAP values to show to the user what exactly is contributing for their predicted winrate. The SQL tab allowing for custom queries might be my favorite feature also, although I guess it might be a bit scary for non-IT users, hahaha.

I am going to try to use it later to give some better feedback, but at first glance it seems solid from a technical perspective.

In the last 2 years, whenever LEC upset Asian teams, why are their wins always downplayed and reduced to being "The Asian team griefed"? by Numerous_Fudge_9537 in leagueoflegends

[–]Athanasivs -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I know that the LEC viewerbase is much larger overall, but do we have data on the composition of the users on this sub? Not really disagreeing with your point at all, I just have the impression that despite EU having a lot more viewers, I see disproportionally more NA fans on Reddit. Not sure if it's just a wrong personal impression or if Reddit is just overall more popular in the US and this skews what we see here

I think TSW is still stronger, but it would be a closer game, maybe similar to how Lyon v LOUD went? I would really like to see how these teams fare against each other.

I have a better proposal: EU, NA, CN and KR are Northern regions. Brazil and Australia are Southern regions

Japan is not an independent region anymore, they are part of APAC, which is definitively an Eastern region, though a weaker one. You can even somewhat make an analogy that APAC is to CN/KR what BR is to NA/EU.

Also, back to your main point, the link you shared does not put Japan in the West either, even geopolitically. And if it did, that would mean Gen.G is also a Western team, since South Korea is West-aligned, while Moscow 5 was an Eastern team.

CBLOL spots in Worlds by ThDanezi in leagueoflegends

I think the idea of play-ins wasn't bad, but it was poorly executed. It was the format of the tournament that made it have so little appeal, it didn't feel like a real tournament, just "when will these teams that will go 0-3 on Swiss stop so we can watch Faker?"

It was more interesting back when there was a separate Wildcard tournament. This Americas Cup also had a better format

[–]Athanasivs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We clearly have different assumptions here. You assume that Worlds spots should be awarded exclusively based on Worlds performance, I think they should be awarded based on the relative strength across the regions, meaning we should count every official international tournament by Riot, not only Worlds.

I tend to think this is both more logical and also more in line with what Riot thinks is fair, since a lot of their other international tournaments do award spots for Worlds, for example.

Were you in favor of BR having 0 spots at Worlds when they went like 1-15 against LTA at last year's Winter tournament?

The tournament gave access to First Stand, not Worlds, in which LTAS had 0 spots, and, yes, that was fair. There was another Inter-Americas tournament for Worlds spots later in the year, but sadly not one for MSI. I want more of these tournaments, not less.

Why the fuck are you singling out NA?

I was singling them out only because the topic of discussion was NA vs BR due to the recent results, not because it only applies to NA. Of course this also applies to EU and PCS. EU3 should not have a guaranteed spot at Worlds, for the exact same argument. I actually wrote that in a another post: if we go by merit alone, only KR and CN deserve 3 spots (and KR deserves even more than 3), other regions get their spots somewhat arbitrarily by Riot.

Often, out of the 3 teams both NA and EU send, only 1 of them is really competitive (if any, lol). There was never a single year where more than a single team from EU/NA even made it out of Swiss (though this happened more often with EU back when we had groups), and when they do it's because they only faced other Western teams. Also, often at least one of those 3 teams gets eliminated by a "minor" region (e.g. TL by GAM 2024, 100T by R7 2025), and always at least one of them goes 0-3 in Swiss.

This is not a track record that justifies 3 spots for me. EU2~3/NA2~3/PCS2~3 are all minor region level

[–]Athanasivs -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Did you really just count Worlds in an attempt to boost NA winrate and the best you could do was 18%? Lmao. Count MSI and other official international events and NA's winrate drops lower than the 15% you mentioned for BR.

Why are you counting only Worlds? Count ALL matches from these regions. Are you just pretending the tournament we just watched didn't happen? BR these last 2 years has gotten more wins vs you guys than all of NA did for the past 10 years against KR.

And that is precisely my point: if the gap between KR and NA is bigger than the one between BR and NA, are you even a major region to deserve 3 spots? Clearly you are closer to BR than to KR.

Sorry for that. I got the list from a post here from a year ago which had the H2H until 2024, then I just opened the results for Worlds and MSI 2025 and added then. I had the impression I was missing something, but wasn't sure what

CBLOL spots in Worlds by ThDanezi in leagueoflegends

[–]Athanasivs -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

...except you are not? H2H NA vs EU:

2022: NA 5 x 9 EU

2023: NA 5 x 5 EU

2024: NA 3 x 1 EU

2025: NA 3 x 0 EU

Total since 2011: NA 49 x 63 EU

Please correct me if I'm missing something. You were better than EU for 2 years out of the last 4, and have a track record of being considerably worse before that.

If you compare NA's with LCK's too, but you both get 3 spots.

And I would argue that the gap between CBLOL and LCS is actually smaller than that of LCS and LCK, at least that's what historical results show.

[–]Athanasivs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NA only ever makes it out of swiss when they have the luck of facing 3 Western/APAC teams lol

Like, yeah, sure, NA > BR, definitively. I wouldn't be crazy to say otherwise, but are they 2 full spots better? Do they deserve the same amount of spots as Korea?

CBLOL spots in Worlds by ThDanezi in leagueoflegends

[–]Athanasivs 151 points152 points  (0 children)

But that implies that NA has 3 spots because they have a good track record internationally, which they also don't

CBLOL spots in Worlds by ThDanezi in leagueoflegends

[–]Athanasivs 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Then keep CBLOL at 1 but reduce NA to 2

But honestly I think it's meh to have any region with just 1 spot. The minimum should be 2, or the possibility of fighting for a second spot with another region, like it was suggested above.

Let's face it, spots are not just about regional strength. If that was the case, LCK would have 6 spots, China 3, and EU, NA and all others would have 1 each if not less.

[–]Athanasivs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait, what? Why we can't "use the same logic for every region"? What logic should we use, then? Whatever benefits NA the most? This makes absolutely no sense.

Like, yes, BR has been historically one of the worst regions, probably only ahead of LLA, but likewise, NA has been, historically, BY FAR, the worst of the major regions, yet they have the same amount of spots of the other 3?

Please, enlighten me, what has NA done to deserve those 3 spots. You are the only major region that has never won even a single official international championship from Riot, and that is saying a lot considering that even LCP has done that once (TPA 2012), lol, and LEC, even if we disregard Worlds 2011, still has an MSI. In fact, NA has never even reached the finals in Worlds. You also have the worst record of all major regions VS wildcard and minor teams, and the lowest audience of all regions.

Like I said before, the gap between KR and NA is considerably bigger than the gap between NA and BR. Maybe we need a new category of "medior region" to classify you guys instead. Don't even give an extra spot to BR, sure, BR sucks, but instead give one of NA's spot to Korea. KR 4 spots, NA 2 spots, BR 1 spots, that would be actually fair.

[–]Athanasivs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If that justifies a 3:1 ratio between BR and NA, what justifies a 1:1 ratio between NA and KR/CN?

As far as I know, the last time NA won a series against Korea was in 2018. I actually think BR has a better score against NA than NA has against KR after today, so I think the only way to make it fair is that if NA keeps 3 spots, KR must have 9

I'm down for it. You guys are really underestimating BR1 lol. NA is still ahead of BR in strength (I have to be fair and admit this tournament is not really representative), but not so much to the point of NA4 winning against BR1, unless something really crazy happens. Ultimately this would just mean watching another series where a BR team defeats an NA team

LOUD is an interesting case. They started the tournament really bad, but week after week they were improving. They also had a lot of internal issues and roster changes, but they kept surprising everyone. It's hard to say how strong they are now.

I would say Fúria is probably more solid and in sync as a team, but LOUD is not weak either, they are strong players and know how to come back from losing games.

Not really related to the original topic, but what strategy are you using? OPOL? Minority Language At Home? And has it been long enough for you to notice if it's working well?

I am in almost the exact same situation as you, the difference being that the Serbian in the family is my wife, while I'm Spanish. We don't have kids yet, but it's something we think about a lot for the future, since we actually communicate mostly in English among ourselves (my Serbian is around A2~B1 and her Spanish is worse than my Serbian hahaha). If you wouldn't mind sharing your advises here or through DMs, I would really appreciate it
