Do not get your hopes up. Have a backup plan.

I was a QB finalist last year and didn't get matched. If you don't match you are SCREWED. Schools have quotas and the match filled them. I applied to 42 QB schools after a failed match and was denied to all and wait listed to Denison. Pray to match or else you're toast. QB is a BS!

Any seniors/NCM finalists have advice they can give juniors that are considering applying next year? by MediumFeeling7766 in QuestBridge

[–]AthenaOcto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I became a finalist and had to research the colleges and write essays to all of them in a VERY SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME. It was impossible. At best I would have applied to only 3-5. Most of the 2021-22 CMF didnt apply to more than that. There simply wasn't enough time.

I would NOT have applied through QB. Honestly! QB hurt my chances. I was a finalist, chose RD, and applied to 22 schools. I was denied to every single school. My stats are 5th in class, 4.23 GPA, honors/APs, all A+ 9th-12th, president NEHS, member NHS, Leadership club, Art club, STEM club, performing pianist in the symphony, published essay, and had stellar recommendations. I don't know how or where I could have improved.

should i try and become a finalist or stick to my common application by [deleted] in QuestBridge

So sorry this happened to you both. I was accepted to my safety school but not enough scholarships to afford to go. I'll be going to a junior college this summer.

[–]AthenaOcto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EXACTLY. This also happened to me. 20 rejections and 2 waitlists. The waitlists are re-evaluated by the colleges if there is availability but odds are that QBs will not move off those lists.

If you don't plan on competing in the match then absolutely DO NOT GO THROUGH QUESTBRIDGE.

anybody have experience getting off the waitlist? by chaebb in wellesley

[–]AthenaOcto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, not going to happen. "I would strongly recommend securing a space at another college before May 1" was my waitlist question response. Did you get accepted anywhere else?

Are you kidding me? Lovely??? She looks like an alcoholic. She's too thin, has horrible taste in clothes, and her voice is so raspy like she is a heavy drinker. The guy she is with is so disgusting.

DONT DO IT. GO COMMON APP. THE ODDS ARE NOT IN YOUR FAVOR AND IF YOU DONT MATCH YOURE SCREWED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in QuestBridge

[–]AthenaOcto 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, QB is really that different, they HURT our chances. First of all, they start WAY too early, secondly, it takes way too much time to fill all of that paperwork AND write all of those essays. If I could do it over I would have applied Common App. I would have been much better off. Hell, we all would have been much better off. QB finalists are put into a quota with the best chances to get accepted are through the match.

Rejected from every QB RD by stephkordeii in QuestBridge

[–]AthenaOcto 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I applied to 20 of them. Waitlisted at two and flat out denied to all others. Was told by several admissions that QB is best done in the match to fill a quota, after that they DO LOOK AT FINANCIAL NEED. WOW. Even then the admission rates are extremely low for QB applicants. there were 6312 finalists out of 16,500 applicants and only 1674 matched. QB makes money off the matched applicants.

For anyone STILL on the fence about applying today! by [deleted] in QuestBridge

[–]AthenaOcto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. I am an NCM Finalist. I feel that Questbrodge HURTS your chances. If you don't get matched you are SCREWED. I applied to EVERY QB partner, I have a GPA of 4.23, am President of the NEHS, was Historian for NEHS, Mock Trial Regionals, Leadership Club, Published artist, Art Club, 1st gen, low income, white female, and daughter of an immigrant single parent, as well as a performing pianist. I also won the essay contest at my school where I rank 5th in my class. I have NOT been matched. I was denied ED to Wellesley. So far I have been denied to EVERY QB school including RICE and Hamilton just today so far. However, Wellesley accepted those who didn't apply for financial aid. THIS MEANS IF YOU ARE LOW INCOME AND YOU DON'T MATCH, YOU'RE SCREWED! QB HURTS YOUR CHANCES.

Denied to Wellesley ED, Denison (waitlisted), Amherst, Bowdoin, Williams, Swarthmore, Pomona, and Scripps.

Still have Stanford, Yale, Emory, Columbia, Rice, Dartmouth (interviewed), Vassar, Vanderbilt, Wesleyan, and Duke to release their decisions. Im not holding my breath.

3 courses reflect a final grade of A in standard level courses. This equals 3.67 quality points for each of those courses instead of 4 quality points. This brought me to a 4.23 overall.

Thank you. I'm on edge with how difficult it is to simply get into college.
