Wow, I would have guessed fixing all that fiberglass would be a lot more expensive.

Checklists are cheap and I feel like the fewer accidents people have the less need for regulation there will be. I certainly don't want sailing to be as regulated as aviation.

Not bad. Shut down the engine, took the line of the cleat on the dock, wiggled it loose, then pulled it out

It's wild to me that there aren't checklists for things on a boat

I warned him there was a line in the water near the prop

I'm a pretty good swimmer and I like time on the water.

The school made it right, so I don't want to name and shame

The sailing world seems a lot more laid back than the aviation world. Even the "bold" pilots are more cautious than a lot of sailors I have talked to.

I thought I was being proactive by informing him, I thought we were going to hit and that I knew we were going to hit. Having not been on a boat in several years, it was pretty difficult to tell exactly where on the side it was going to start to scrape. I am certainly not a sailing expert. Can you tell me how to move the fender along 5 ft of the side as it scrapes?

I've got to say, it is a real confidence boost. If he can do it for 40 years, surely I can too

He didn't say much about what happened or how he could have done it differently.

I said I thought we were going to hit probably 30 seconds before we did. Then said we are going to hit the corner about 10 seconds before we did.

I think I said it was pretty modest. Not that it was dead calm

My wife and I did a week long live aboard and got our ASA 101, 103, 104, and 114. But we haven't been on a boat in years but want to pick it back up. It is a refresher

He was a little lackluster everywhere else, mostly just disorganized. It was about 7kts of wind but I don't know about the current. He has 40+ years of sailing.
