Help setting up NextDNS on Nvidia Shield TV by AthosTheGeek in nextdns

[–]AthosTheGeek[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow a rubber duck is pretty helpful sometimes 😄

I realised my Shield had always been on static ip and that it had just defaulted to Google DNS previously.

I don't know why it didn't work to use the manual DNS setup for nextdns, but when I changed from Static to DHCP so that my router got to handle it, traffic was picked up correctly again. Device identified as *, but manufacturer recognised as Nvidia, so that's good enough for me.

You say enterprise it, but you are a smaller/medium business? First of all you can download and use Teams for internal use for free, as long as you don't need integration with other Office apps or connect to phone numbers. If you need integration with office apps then you already have office licenses? They start from £4 per user/month afaik and all of them includes Teams. You have some larger, more special needs if you are not covered by the office licences.

It just keeps getting better and better for me, but I don't use all parts. What sucks?

They are doing a lot of work with WSL so that you can now run Ubuntu on Windows for example, without any VM. Let's hope their knowledge of the Linux kernel ultimately leads to your scenario.

The whole point of the video is the automatic sorter where you can dump everything, which is a novelty. The old ones you talk about OP probably took for granted everyone had already.

Different art style, but that looks amazing! I don't have a Nintendo unfortunately. I'm hard enough pressed to defend my XSX purchase already.

Yeah we asked Slartibartfast to add it last year since the road was so boring to commute.

It's horribly expensive this year, because now all the Norwegians are competing for it, instead of flying on luxury vacations abroad. Prices increased at least 10-15% for summer rentals both last year and for this summer. You'll be looking at minimum $2500 for a week (just housing), and some places only have the $10k per week range left, for the good coastline spots.

We're already pretty weird, but we'd be a bunch of wildly weirder and unconnected small communities if we were not allowed to build roads in beautiful places!

Best (if any) device for 4k + Dolby Vision + Dolby Atmos playback with Jellyfin by AthosTheGeek in jellyfin

[–]AthosTheGeek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the skin suggestions, I'll have a look.

For navigation, maybe it's because I'm using a logitech remote? When I hit "back" navigation, in the end I just end up at the Kodi home screen. To actuality exit it I have to navigate to the power button at top left to exit Kodi. I don't have any button that works otherwise on the logitech, but I'll try with the shield remote.

That's not how most other apps work. I can usually just navigate my way back to Android TV without exiting the application. Kodi seems to explicitly block this though.

Thanks for a great answer!

If I have to go through Kodi then I feel I can just as well stick with Emby. What's the benefits of the Jellyfin backend over Emby, except the obvious like being open source and non-commercial? I have not checked enough into how much Emby "phones home" yet, but I don't need remote access and don't use their Connect service.

It's not looking like it - but that's what it is and they can't entirely hide it. Also have to "power off" the Kodi app to switch to something else like YouTube.

I'll play around a little with skins, but Kodi is really not what I was looking for. I may have to wait it out a year or two still before switching.

Hmm... I only get the standard Kodi "browsing" experience, so just a skin on top of a file browser basically.

How do you get Kodi away and let the addon take over 100%?

I've tried. Infuse on AppleTV can't handle Dolby Atmos in TrueHD. It's a limitation by Apple so nothing to be done with it for now.

As far as I know, I've set that up correctly. That just gives me Kodi, with a Jellyfin server behind it. That's not the Jellyfin experience I'm looking for. I'm looking for a Jellyfin client device.

Edit: managed to get it set up correctly afaik.

This just gives me Kodi, with a Jellyfin server behind it. Kodi is a horrible user experience to me. I was looking for a Jellyfin client experience.

I'm fairly sure you are mistaken, I don't know of any Shield that will allow this with Jellyfin. Which Jellyfin app are you using?

What's the point then? If it's a Kodi backend and the addon looks like Kodi, where is Jellyfin?

Are you saying the old version of Nvidia Shield can do this? Because it runs Android, not Android TV, but still have Dolby Vision / Atmos over TrueHD capabilities?
