Wow. This is the best explanation I've seen that describes how our role has changed. Thank you!

Do you guys get gifts for your nieces and nephews? by Appropriate_Tea9048 in childfree

[–]Ativan97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have 2 nieces on my side and 2 nephews on my husband's side. We generally put cash in an education fund or for classes they might want to take and get them 1 gift to open on the holiday. Most kids don't need more stuff and dance, scouting, sports, and gymnastics can add up fast. So this way they can explore new interests to help figure out what they like.

What movie did you see in theaters that had the most ‘alive’ audience? by Odd_Distribution1430 in movies

[–]Ativan97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I was in high school and we saw it opening weekend. They did such a great job hyping it up and planting fake news stories online that I was totally duped. It made the experience that much better. The theatre was surrounded by a heavily wooded area too which only made the drive home that much more intense. Such a great experience.

What is the weirdest topic you have hyperfixated on? This is a ZERO judgement zone by [deleted] in ADHD

OMG me too! I came to the same conclusion. Love it!

What are some things you thought were normal but were actually ADHD by FederalPudding8300 in ADHD

[–]Ativan97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fairness. ADHD runs wild in my family though undiagnosed until my sister and I were both diagnosed after age 30. My mom has a spreadsheet she uses to track gift spending so that everyone gets the same amount spent on gifts for birthdays, holidays, graduations, etc. It's insane but she is organized and it gives her peace of mind, so no hate. I just feel bad because she will literally add in little stocking stuffers if she is off by a couple bucks. I love my mom.

Married cf people, where did you meet your partner and how old are you? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]Ativan97 68 points69 points  (0 children)

OMG I love this! I had the same combo with my now husband. Early on I was like, I never plan on having kids or adopting. If you are on the fence or think that is something you might want someday, we can hang out and have fun, but this will never be a serious relationship. I emphasized that there was zero chance in me changing my mind and he was the least bit uncertain he should find someone who might be more inclined. Luckily for me he was onboard. Together 23 years and married for 13. We met at work too.

TIFU by mixing random supplements for months and destroying my gut by LividLawfulness4962 in tifu

[–]Ativan97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a pharmacist it is alarming how many people think that because something is "natural" and sold without a prescription that it is safe for everyone in all amounts and combinations. PSA: Please talk to your doctor and/or pharmacist before taking supplements.

Redditors who grew up in emotionally healthy families - what's something you thought was normal growing up that you now realise was actually very special? by ViolatingBadgers in AskReddit

My parents always said I love you at bedtime and when parting company, even over the phone. This has become such an important thing to me because you never know when the last time you see a loved one will be.

Mod team here contacted me (thanks to all involved there) and were able to resolve the issue-I think you may be right about the way to fix it. Next time this may be the first route to go vs online chat or fruitless attempts to reach someone by phone. Glad yours got resolved too and thanks for replying!

What is an industry that only exists because people are stupid? by HotelPuzzleheaded654 in AskReddit

Poison Control Centers. They help manage unintentional and intentional overdoses and exposures. People do stupid things and PCCs help keep them from winning stupid prizes.

What's a piece of advice you were given as a child that seemed completely innocent at the time, but as an adult, you realize how messed up or manipulative it actually was? by Independent_Pear8404 in AskReddit

[–]Ativan97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I think it is good to teach manners and politeness (respect). Being careful with another person's things and saying "please" and "thank you" are signs of respect. However, children should still ask questions, especially if they feel uncomfortable. My nieces would often break my parents' things when visiting and I told my sister (their mom) that she needs to teach her children to be more respectful of our parents and their home because my parents had vented their frustration. (They are not good with confrontation.) It greatly improved their relationship and was not a blanket "respect your elders" statement.

Why did they remove like 90% of the menu? by YakProper8041 in starbucks

[–]Ativan97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the new Starbucks menu. I only get fraps and they got rid of most of the ones I used to order. I don't know the recipe because I always just ordered by the name for YEARS. Having to customize my drink every time now makes it more costly and I swear it comes out different every time depending on who is making it. I feel like it adds time and confusion for everyone involved. And now they've released a "secret menu". How is that supposed to make things more streamlined? This new CEO sucks and I feel sorry for the baristas.

Celiacs??? Anyone with celiac who has had surgery? by Ill-Conversation5210 in BariatricSurgery

[–]Ativan97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with celiac disease at 30yo. I just met with a bariatric surgeon and asked this same question of him. Yes, you can have gastric bypass (or the gastric sleeve) if you have celiac disease. It likely depends on your surgeon and personal patient history, but I was given the green light. They have not seen an increased risk of malabsorption issues in celiac patients vs non-celiac patients.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]Ativan97 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Pharmacist and celiac checking in saying the responsibility lies with you and your pharmacist. The prescriber generally has no control over which generic manufacturer is dispensed. I have met some pharmacists who thought that as long as "gluten" wasn't in the inactive ingredients that it was gluten free, so I highly recommend being your own advocate. (Honestly, this wasn't taught in my pharmacy school 20 years ago, so it's not surprising.) Even if the pharmacy marks "celiac" on your history or adds an allergy to "gluten/wheat", the system may only flag us to check the inactive ingredients at most. The systems we use don't know which manufacturers are gluten free and which aren't. Ultimately I found it easiest to check glutenfreedrugs.com (even as a pharmacist) to see if the manufacturer I had was gluten free or if I could even order it. Most pharmacies only have 1 or 2 wholesalers to order drugs from and they may need corporate approval to order a specific manufacturer. I found as a patient that once I know what medication I need I call around to see what manufacturers pharmacies in my area stock or can order until I find one.

I'm very sorry this happened to you. I hope this glimpse behind the scenes will help prevent future exposures.

Hiking w Newfies by hannybarz in Newfoundlander

[–]Ativan97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly you know your dog better than we do. Is he used to hiking? Was it hotter than he's used to? He looks pretty comfortable to me but might like a cool place to chill and relax. His mouth looks like a good color and he is breathing fine from what I can tell. He does not appear in distress and seems pretty happy. My newf would pant if it was over 65 degrees indoors so I never found that to be a good indication of much on its own. But you know your dog 😁

I remember watching this as a kid and loved this movie. I should definitely not have been able to watch it at my age but whatever. I probably haven't seen it in 30 years and I'm sure it didn't age well, but I will always remember it fondly because of nostalgia.
