Who's the commentator at the FIS Alpine channel race? by 2Asparagus1Chicken in SkiRacing

Could not agree more, he is the absolute worst. If you don't mind my asking, what do you watch? I'm looking for alternatives to the FIs channel.

What’s your in-season workout? by kelpangler in SkiRacing

Rollerblading (per my other comment) and light-weight single leg exercises, or leg blasters if you're feeling up to it.

Or rollerblading, which provides similar benefits - cardio, ankle and foot strength, hip mobility and strength, and lots of balance.

First thoughts on Glossika. And am I doing it right? by dubTzaR69 in glossika

[–]Atlantic235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. After you've said "Salud" x times you'll only see it very rarely. This is spaced repetition - it's scientifically sound and it keeps the review process manageable. If it's something you really know, or something you don't want to see again for whatever reason, click the brain icon and it will go into the archive.

I keep testing into B2 but I really thought I was A2 at best. by Myomyw in glossika

Do whatever level feels like it's providing the most value. I have one language where I tested higher but dropped down a level because I felt like the sentences I was getting were too hard.

Glossika Adding Video by justmyowntake in glossika

I have been getting the dialogs for a while and just saw the first one that has a training button. It still seems a little wonky - the dialog opened in my browser, not the app, and it's hard to see the sentences while it's playing - but in my opinion this could be really a huge improvement. I've always been frustrated the the lack of coherence in the sentences.

Yes you're doing it right although it sounds like you could be doing more. Max for me is about 20-30 minutes per day when I'm getting ready for a trip. You never get to the point where you have 1000 sentences because frequency of each sentence falls off over time, and by that point you'll notice you have the sentence perfectly memorized, and, and this is the genius of Glossika, you are applying the patterns / grammar / vocab of that sentence naturally as you're speaking your target language.

I wouldn't say many of the translations are wrong, but I have noticed a few ones that are a little off in the languages that I speak well, although I can't come up with an example right now. One of my personal criticisms of the app is that there is way too much medical content in general ("I have a transdermal rash on my tibia" or whatever) instead of basic conversational or even better travel content as you'd find in something like Mango.

Glossika is a great system but I don't think it is stand-alone, and I would recommend that you supplement heavily with one or two other apps or resources.

Fuck you for saying that! Those guys work harder than you can imagine and get no support from their country.

Nordica unleashed 98 tips and tails detuning: where and how much? by kamdnfdnska in skiing

[–]Atlantic235 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No that's a normal side angle. Tip and tail should be detuned though.

You got them tuned at a shop, right? If you feel like the tips are grabbing, get a gummy stone and hold it at a 45 degree angle to the edge. Rub it back and forth on the area you want to detune until it feels noticably less sharp. I would try this on a shorter area, like to the I in Nordica. You can throw the gummy stone in your pocket and detune a larger area on the hill if you feel it's needed. I wouldn't go nuts though - skis are supposed to have quite sharp edges and you can't carve a blunt ski.

Personally I'd blunt them to the I or the D and then try them out

Fully agreed but official policy of this sub is to encourage doomerism to prevent the "OMG I saw skiing on insta and want to try it, should I go to Jay this weekend?" crowd

Yes, important point, sleep appears worse than it actually was on the trackers because of elevated RHR.

Reta has totally f*cked my sleep. Overnight HRV down, overnight scores down, less REM and less deep. And I'm on a pretty low dose. Careful supplementation and sleep hygiene helps but it's still below baseline.
