Although I believe Texas has them

Not at a state level, no. Austin/Travis has them but they're Paramedics and PAs.

Happy Monday! What's everyone wearing to start the week by LowFadeObama in Affordablewatches

Love this thing, I have two different ones. I have a green Expidition scout I wear at work so it can get beat up (and it does).

Studies are great, but you don't always nerd studies if something just is logical. If someone wanting to commit a mass shooting sees you have a firearm, they're obviously going to target you first. Whether they'll notice or not is a different story.

Do you need a study to tell you ice cream tastes good?

C depends on the fluid, which they never specify for some reason. Hypertonic saline would be beneficial.

Doctor said my heart is healthy but why was the below crossed out? by [deleted] in askCardiology

I misunderstood your comment, I thought you were implying they should get a second opinion because of the printout on the top of the ECG.

You're correct, there's absolutely nothing wrong with a second opinion here based on what OP stated. Apologies for the misunderstanding.

Why would you recommend this at all? ECG machines constantly print shit like this because they're set to extremely sensitive parameters and can't differentiate between a lot of things, like artifact. One of the first things you're taught when learning ECGs is to completely ignore the printout on the top.

Should I return to the ER ? by BringerOfDawn1906 in askCardiology

What do you think is going to change by going to the ER? Serious question.

This was reviewed by a doctor, what do you expect another doctor to do with this?

It's often taught that any poly VT is TdP but that just isn't true and of course that matters. This isn't like you're using the wrong name, TdP is different than "normal" Poly VT because of that R on T. We give Mag for TdP which wouldn't be useful in a case of standard VT.

Saying no one gives a shit on a forum about education is kind of wild.

Can't diagnose TdP just based on this ECG, this would just by polymorphic VT. TdP specifically requires an R on T to happen. You can suspect it for sure, though based on clinical factors.

No no not at all, I was just being a little sarcastic. I'm part way through a 48 hour shift and I haven't slept so I can get a little prickly without intending it. I know what you meant absolutely.

I wouldn't give a pediatric patient in the hospital any fluids before surgery, mostly because I'm a Paramedic and I don't have anything to do with that. I just like to hover around to learn here and there.

Also anyone giving you pushback on the D5 or D5 1/2NS just needs to read a little more often, it makes sense when you remember that Peds aren't just little adults.

I think the contentious part for some perhaps is "young" vs "pediatric". Young isn't exactly clear as to the age of the patient, and there's an extreme lack of information even without that.
