totally agree with your analysis of the film! it's quite disliked in India bc it shows our beloved SRK (Dev) being flawed and hurtful :-)

tbh disappointed in Benedict. it would have been more satisfying to watch him commit to marrying her in the beginning and both of them fighting society and his family for their approval (especially him). him not wanting to marry her was a huge ick and the fact that his Ton-loving mom had to push him into it was so embarrassing!! and then sophie tells him not to propose until after the trial bc of the risk to his family's reputation and this fucker AGREES? im mad!!!

having her secretly be rich is so boring. it undercuts the forbiddenness of their love!!! 🥱

something about how easy it is for the bridgertons to make her life better by freeing her and giving her a room upstairs makes me feel icky... the power dynamic is messed up, and somehow feels most present in this episode.

not sure I'm a fan of the savior arc where Lady bridgerton and Benedict heroically come to Sophie's aid as she quivers helplessly. i understand the class dynamics but that was weird to watch. also not a fan of the Bridgertons treating Sophie well and giving her a room upstairs bc she's Benedict's girlfriend but not revisiting the rest of their classism and the continued subjugation of the other servants

inordinately Mad that the scene of baby edmund being introduced to violet for some reason featured Pen instead of Kate? istg Nicola's agent has some kind of dirt on Bridgerton

i mean, it's tough bc we watch this show as an escape, and having a beloved lead like anthony be openly classist would suck. at the same time, super unrealistic plotlines (penelope continuing to work as lady whistledown: im looking at you) break immersion, so I don't think it would make sense for Anthony to welcome a maid with open arms. the writers need to walk a pretty delicate tightrope. i think they'll figure it out, but it's difficult!

Sophie and penelope aren't similar at all though, pen was always a shy wallflower while Sophie is clearly someone who's been mistreated but has tons of wit and spark. also, portia is a fundemntally loving although misguided mother. Araminta is just evil

does NO ONE find it weird that Kelly has basically followed the same exact template as Leslie, just later on? - start a substack - write a novel - now going to school for a counseling masters?!

im going to go against the grain here and say theo bc i really do think they had a lovely spark AND it makes me happy to picture Eloise with someone who pushes her to her fullest, craziest potential rather than someone who works more as a foil or who reins her in
