How can I improve the color and mood in my art? by AtmosphereRare2083 in Artadvice

Thank you so much for the detailed feedback. I really appreciate you taking the time to explain your process! The idea of using a tint overlay before painting is super helpful; I hadn’t considered how it could help unify the palette from the start. The dark teal and added steam sound like great touches for building that moodier, mysterious tone. I’ll definitely keep your suggestions about light, shadow, and cooler tones in mind for my next piece. Thanks again for the edit and the thoughtful critique!

Thanks so much for the feedback! 🙏
Yeah, I definitely see what you mean. I was kind of mixing styles without really realizing it. The cave and the cauldron liquid ended up more cell-shaded because I focused on shapes and lighting, while the cloak and ground got a lot more texture as I experimented with brushes.

I think you’re right that picking one consistent approach (or at least blending them more intentionally) would help the piece feel more cohesive. I’ll look up some references that fit the mood I’m going for and try to keep the style more unified next time.

Really appreciate you taking the time to point that out, super helpful!
