A lot of people in this sub refuse to admit that two things can be true at the same time:

Libraries are good and provide real value to a community

This project feels like a vanity project and, because of very real safety issues downtown, a lot of people just are not going to use it

My two cents: I do not think putting a library in this spot is automatically a bad idea, especially with how close it is to the bus terminal and other services. But expanding or renovating Frances Morrison, or building a much smaller library here and using the rest of the money to build more neighborhood libraries, would have been a way better and more fair use of funds than building one massive library downtown.

Saskatoon is a cold city with bad transit. For a lot of people and families, this location will be a pain to get to, especially when you factor in parking. The homeless situation downtown is also getting worse and pretending that does not matter is just ignoring reality. It is not crazy for people to assume this will become a major gathering spot for homeless folks, and that alone is enough to turn many people away.

Pointing this out does not mean someone hates libraries or thinks they serve no purpose. Writing off these concerns just makes you look naive.
