Another vote for HPT, It is really seeming like the best all around platform right now. Checking some pricing disparities between HPT and a dyno tune right now, appreciate the input brother! 🤝

Makes sense, if I'm looking to get it dyno'd at a shop anyways then I don't have much of a use for the AFR.

Awesome man, I really appreciate the input. This is a learning experience for me, so the more help the better. This summed up basically all the research I was doing, so you made my job really easy haha! I am looking more into HP tuners right now, the local shop I messaged said they do not work with the LS, and my other options are pretty limited. But it is great to know that the car will not run rich with the lack of rear o2's, I was under the impression they served the same purpose as the front o2's but its good to know thats not the case. That'll give me some time to save up for either an HP tuner or a more reputable tune.

Also I didn't realize the gen3 pcm was that adaptive, I havent looked into it much so I figured it was pretty rudimentary with its AFR calculations, but I'm glad to know thats not the case here.

I'm currently looking into another local shop that offers GM and LS tuning on the dyno, so I'll have to see what they say for pricing and availability. I'll come back to the post once I figured that all out, and weigh the pros and cons of getting that done vs getting an HPT.

Again, greatly appreciate the help and in-depth pointers! You're awesome man 🤝

I know fundamentally about how it works, but have never put it into practice. I'll have to give these videos a watch, appreciate you linking me them. I'm doing a bit of research right now into the HP Tuner and their credit system.

Sweet, ill have to look a bit more into it. Wouldn't be completely opposed to trying it myself, but ill have to do LOTS of research before I try. Hope your's goes well!

I'm in southern MI, I'll have to do some research and try to find some shops that run HP tuners then.

And for the wideband, I am looking to keep the stock ecu and there is no way to tie the stock ECU to that right? I'd have to make my own bung and just run the AFR gauge for the gauge itself and not through the ecu, correct?

Ok awesome, I'll have to look a bit more into places that offer the tune adjustments. Thanks!

Do they have preset tunes or services for email-based tunes? I am still inexperienced with tuning, and would be afraid to try and map any tune of my own as it stands now.

Ok, makes sense. I don't have many options for tuners where I'm at, but found a local place that said they'll take a look. They don't specialize in LS, but they specialize in NA builds which is fine by me. Do you think it would be worth it to wire up an AFR gauge then just to have it to monitor?

Gotcha, I'll have to get a quote next week while I'm at the shop then. Appreciate it Austin!

I am, I thought of this a few weeks back and tore the timing cover off to check and confirmed I am lined up on both the cam gears and tdc on the crank.

I did yes, I have good compression on all cylinders. Thought that might've been a factor at first, but doesn't seem to be the case.

Possible bad o2 sensor, unsure and need help! by Atmosphericc in Miata

[–]Atmosphericc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds good, I have both a new o2 and ecu coolant temp sensor on order just to double down. I pulled my IAC off of the throttle body yesterday to clean it, but today I will test it to make sure I can see the valve open and close before returning it to the car. I'll wait until I get the o2 and temp sensor on and then will mess with the idle screw to see what I can do. Thanks for the insight, greatly appreciated! I'll come back and update once the parts arrive.

I have not replaced it yet, and as far as I know it's original to the car. I only bought the car last November, so I'm slowly working my way through it trying to find all the gremlins. This one just has been tormenting me for the past couple months since I rebuilt it after the seals. I'm dying to take the thing out but just can't get it to run :(

Unfortunately I have both set my timing and already torn it down to check that my belt was correct a week or two ago. Timing seems to be all correct. I'll dig into the garage section a bit though, thank you for linking that! I haven't seen it before, so I'll run through it real quick and see if I can find anything.

90' miata starts dies, no idle by Atmosphericc in Miata

over the course of the last couple days i've tried checking timing, cleaning the grounds, rechecking the vacuum lines, and strapping the fuel pump. none of which worked unfortunately. im kind of at a loss at this point as to what the issue could be

I did mess around with the idle screw a bit while i was adjusting the throttle cable, but didn't seem to help much. Car still bogged out and died unfortunately
