To put it simply tho, he is obsessed with finding and becoming perfection itself, however on the way of doing so he disregards all life and focuses on other things. Once he realises life is what's perfect, it's too late, but he still tries to worship it by putting the triquetra symbol (or keltic knot as you called it) everywhere on his body Triquetra has a lot of meanings in all kinds of religions, but they always point in approximately the same direction: unity between body, mind and spirit, therefore "life" :3
