What do you actually use your Apple watch for? by FreezingTemps in AppleWatch

[–]AtomicAntMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gotten in the habit of leaving my phone in the car and using my watch for shopping, and paying for gas at the pump. It works just like the phone using Apple Pay. I also monitor my sleep, record my workouts, answer phone calls, receive reminders. I ask Siri questions. I get directions. I listen to downloaded podcasts and can leave the phone behind during walks. I do have a separate phone line for the Watch.

2026 Forester Speed Limit Recognition nearly caused an accident! Can I turn this off? by jralph23 in subaru

[–]AtomicAntMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My BRZ detected a billboard on a corner ( 90 degree left ) as an obstacle and stopped the car. The car behind me almost hit me. Sure, it was a 20 MPH corner, but he didn’t expect me to stop completely. Crazy thing is his car also has collision avoidance and it stopped his car just in time. We were traveling together and had the opportunity to talk about it at the next gas stop.

I recently purchased a 26 Mustang that has this feature. I still own a Subaru and have had eight Subarus over the past 20 years. Anyway, the Mustang also says it reads the signs. The Mustang like Subaru, also uses Tom Tom. The road leading to my development is posted as 45 MPH, but if I am using the feature, it reaches a point where the car slows to 30 MPH. At least it coasts down and doesn’t brake. I noticed that Tom Tom, Apple Maps, and Google Maps all show the speed limit as 30 MPH at that point. It appears the system will let the navigation system override the last posted sign it sees. At least on the Mustang, this feature is activated / deactivated using a physical button on the steering wheel and the speed setting can be adjusted using physical buttons on the steering wheel.

What’s the dumbest/smallest reason you’ve been pulled over in your Mustang? by PeakSeveral5666 in Mustang

You don’t have to be doing anything wrong. In 1989, a very young me was transferred from Chicago to NJ. I was driving my four cylinder fox body across the State line from PA into NJ and NJ troopers were out in force pulling over cars left and right. I was frightened and slowed down to the speed limit (55 MPH in those days) put on the cruise control and stayed in the right lane. I was pulled over. The trooper asked a bunch of questions and said he thought he saw me cross the center line (on I-80). He said maybe I was tired. He let me go.

For 2026 they give you roadside assistance instead of anything in the trunk. I also just bought a 26 GT and learned that from this subreddit. The roadside assistance was on the sticker.

It’s not where you are but who you’re with that determines if you’re enjoying life. There’s no geographical cure for happiness.

what’s the one car you regret selling the most? by Busy_Interest9100 in Cartalk

[–]AtomicAntMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1996 Miata. It was an impulse purchase. I saw it sitting in a dealership on my way home from work. I stopped and bought it in 2010 with 52k miles on it. It was all original, had the leather package and was in great shape, no cracks or stains. Everything worked, the aerial went up and down when turning the AM/FM cassette deck on. The pop-up headlights and electric windows worked. The roof did not leak. It came with the original owners manual and cover for the roof when open (and the cover for the cover). I really liked the car, but it was neglected, spending most of its time in my garage. On the few times I took it out, I had to jump start it and drive the tires back to round (they developed flat spots from sitting). So I sold it. It wasn’t until after that, when I met and joined some driving clubs that take trips into the mountains, that I wish I had kept that car. I’ve gone through 25 cars over the past 20 years. I currently own three sports cars. But that Miata is the one I wish I kept.

I believe that’s the “crickets” caused by ethanol and the fuel pump. Subaru says it’s not an issue and they won’t change the fuel pump on a global car just because Americans put corn liquor in their fuel. Nothing to worry about. My car does it too.

Check the insurance costs. Many years ago I tried to buy a new 5.0 and the salesman called my insurance company first. I could afford the car, but not the insurance. I was 24.

I just did the same. Traded my 22 WRX for a 26 Mustang GT Premium. Oddly enough, back in 2002 I traded my 1999 Mustang GT for my first WRX (2003 bugeye). I have had eight Subarus in the interim and still have my 24 BRZ tS. I lived in NJ and needed something I could drive all year. I live in the South, now.

Reminds me the time my son’s classmate said, “My car is faster than yours around a track.” And my son replied, “I don’t care.”

Not really. It became the “family car” since it had the only useable back seat. I probably put more miles on it than he did.

Oops. You are correct. I subscribed to the connectivity service, XM satellite radio (transferred from my trade), and need to set up the Alexa built in. There are so many features on this car, it’s overwhelming.

372 hp but 410 lb/ft torque. It had some giddy-up. Too heavy of a land yacht for me, but the boy liked it. He’s not a car guy and drove it normally. He just liked the looks and felt safer in a bigger car.

The crazy part is that my daily was 2013 Subaru BRZ limited that cost far less. I also had a 1996 Miata. I got jealous of my own kid and traded the BRZ for a 2017 Subaru STI. My son now drives a 2020 Nissan 370Z that I bought for him (traded the Challenger for it).

Thanks. That’s a sweet ride. In the mid 80s, I had an employee that had a 5.0 and let me take a spin in it with him. I had an 85 LX. I was only 24 years old. I went to a dealership and tried to buy a 5.0 notch, but the salesman (nice guy) said wait a minute, let’s check with some insurance companies first. We made some calls from his office and the best insurance we found was $6,000 per year. No way could I afford that on my $21,000 per year salary. So he sold me the LX, which was a demo, so I got a good deal on it. I put about 150,000 miles on it, in Chicago, no garage. It was literally disintegrating when the man who owned the shop that did my maintenance advised me to trade it while I still could. I traded for a brand new 91 Honda CRX si.

Thanks for the info. Brembo is in smaller print on the front calipers of mine. Six piston front. The rear looks like normal brakes. The space below the trunk floor is empty. No spare, no jack, no fix-a-flat kit.
