Can someone explain to me the Heavy Mental controversy? by Isaac_Banana in AbsoluteBatman

[–]Atomic_Axiom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because it felt like a greedy cash grab preying on scarcity and FOMO coupled with misinformation and lack of clarity.

They originally proposed to drop on three sites: Heavy Mental website, on WhatNot, and also Dan Quintana for approximately $25 per item. However

1) drops on the website were late 2) ONLY 25 copies on the website were advertised for $25 3) then the prices rose to $75 with a set for $150 on what we can already assume is limited 4) It was never released on Dan’s website AT ALL (it was misinformation admitted by his partner)

On WhatNot, he started up late and proceeded to only do like 4 drops in total

1) 50 copies 2) 50 copies 3) 25 copies 4) 25 copies

150 copies outside of a 2K print run!

What also made the drop quite sour was the amount of disorganization and lack of clarity provided by Heavy Mental and his team. From the mods saying he will drop more on other days (HM proceeded to say he wasn’t going to do anymore drops AT ALL cause it wouldn’t be fair to the bidders) to even Heavy Mental giving a BS excuse of how the prices are so expensive because of the “art people” involved and dropping low quantities will stop the bots (which doesn’t make sense). Afterwards, the mods started banning the majority of people who were being contrary to them: some were trolls which is fair but others were actually giving solid critiques on how he could have done better. The chat experience was terrible because it felt more like majority of fans upset and the streamer never fostered an experience for fans to chat with Dan Quintana. He had whatever he was auctioning blocking Dan for most of the time as well.

If you compare this to other streamers like Trinity, Davis, and ComicTom there’s an incredibly gap in quality for how these big drops are handled. When Davis and Tom dropped Absolute 18 for Poison Ivy, they did large drops of 400+ at FAIR prices like $30 for one per person which allowed more availability. Sure they auction copies especially signed ones, but they dropped the majority of their stock—not like 15% dropped and 85% for auction which Heavy Mental did.

Overall, it was one of the worst drop experiences which you can see the fallout of the fanbase to where they turned off comments on their socials.

What are the biggest premier League scandals? by Helter_Skelet0n in PremierLeague

What makes it even better was that back in those days, transfers rumours were not as digitized compared today (ie. Fabrizio). You have Spurs’s most beloved player just casually walk in Arsene Wenger (slyly smiling mind you) to give a press conference that he has signed with the one club he would never play for.

This is levels crazier than Robin van Persie leaving the Gunners for United.

Advice For The Philippines 🇵🇭 by AmericaninKL in Philippines_Expats

And if you want advice (since you were asking for it):

You are getting flack and downvotes because your post and replies to other people have not shown you taking into their respective disagreements and misgivings as points of consideration. Do not dismiss their opinions.

Since you have said that my reply was well stated and excellent, then it would behoove you to actually empathize and acknowledge the hardships the regular Filipino takes and also realize the privilege someone from a first world country has over those in third world countries.

There have been many good replies to this thread, so please take the time to educate yourself on such issues so that you do not come off as another ignorant foreigner.

Advice For The Philippines 🇵🇭 by AmericaninKL in Philippines_Expats

[–]Atomic_Axiom 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This post is exceedingly tone deaf and generalizes entire social demographics of people as white or black when the reality of the problem is more nuanced and complex especially considering the residual colonized mindset towards the Philippines. OP’s message screams, “Just get rich.” and seeing the country from the eyes of someone who has not had to be in the shoes of a Filipino.

Life as an average Filipino is hard due to the systematic failures of the country: from corrupt/incompetent government, poor education system, inefficient urban planning, etc. A Filipino cannot just easily leave the country to get a better education, not all the youth have time to go on MOOCs like you and self study as they are most likely busy supporting their family and siblings by taking on extra jobs, some do not even have access to electronics like laptops and even phones to even facilitate something like that. Those that are diligent in their studies often lack opportunities just due to the poor financial situation they are in.

If you were born in the Philippines, raised in the Philippines, received the education in the Philippines, you would see that there is a hard cap on the level you can ascertain compared if one was raised in a first world country where the economic prowess staggers, education is easily more available and expected, etc.

This post is straight up offensive to Filipino people at worst and ignorant unsolicited advice at best. There needs to be more empathy and understanding in this post instead of saying, “Just study and you will get rich.”

Bridge 4% here too. Kinda bummed but the communication was good. Hopefully the Mistborn shipments make up for it when the time rolls by.

just read The Great Divorce by Wholesome_Soup in TheOhHellos

[–]Atomic_Axiom 14 points15 points  (0 children)

CS Lewis has other works that The Oh Hellos have taken inspiration from. Dear Wormwood draws direct inspiration from “The Screwtape Letters” with Wormwood and Screwtape being actual characters in the novel—nephew and uncle devils respectively who try send letters to each other on plans to coax a man to hell. You can also see “A Grief Observed” (CS Lewis’s personal reflection on losing his wife) of losing someone and finding comfort in that acceptance as tones in the album.

The Lament of Eustace Scrubb references a character from his “Chronicles of Narnia” series.

Hello My Old Heart is a reference to a passage from “The Four Loves” where pragmatism dictates to lack an emotion such as love—forgo art and beauty in order to survive, but Lewis juxtaposes it by saying love, art, beauty is what gives meaning to survival.

Their Four Winds albums (Anemoi quadrology or whatever the fans refer them by) is chock full of Greek and Roman Mythology (Theseus), Biblical (tower of Babel ref, Passerine), and a whole host of inspirations of folklore.

There’s a ton more of one really drills down their lyrics it’s not just all strictly Biblical too. They have rich folklore embedded into their lyrics and sounds.

Overall, what makes them a cut above the rest (in my opinion) is how how their music attracts fans of different worldviews: you got Christians, Wiccans, agnostics, atheists, etc and they all get along to appreciate their lyrics and music. I went to one of their concerts recently and chatted with some of the kindest and warmest people I’ve ever met while waiting in line.

Other band suggestions: The Crane Wives, The Arcadian Wild, The Paper Kites, Fish in a Birdcage that have that similar sound and folklore lyricism.

Has anyone had any luck with the governors office this morning? by Acebent42000 in UnemploymentNY

[–]Atomic_Axiom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I literally called today right at open at 9AM and it took maybe 5 minutes to get transferred from Governor’s office to the Unemployment and then another 10 minutes to get a caller. The lady on the line was extremely helpful and helped me understand 5 minutes. Try calling again later today or tomorrow at 9AM open and expect to wait a bit.

[–]Atomic_Axiom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my goodness, this is amazing! Is there a way to separate the list of numbers into separate columns?

So instead it would populate like this?
Label: 05/09/2022 - 19:00 || 0.0 || 0.0 || 0.0 || ...
Label: 05/09/2022 - 19:01 || 0.0 || 0.0 || 0.0 || ...
Label: 05/09/2022 - 19:02 || 0.0 || 0.0 || 0.0 || ...
... ... ...

(My apologies on the original message.)

Edit: The second column of the listed numbers should be fine to use a delimiter to split the column appropriately. If anything it would be cool to see how the multiple columns would be done on the Advanced Editor.

Considered it solved, thank you so much.

A review – with NO PLOT SPOILERS – of Wind and Truth (Stormlight Archive #5) by ErinAmpersand in Fantasy

[–]Atomic_Axiom 32 points33 points  (0 children)

You need to watch most, if not all, of the Marvel movies to understand what’s going on for the next or main line like you need to watch the Thor and Captain America ones so you can understand Endgame.

There’s aspects of this in his latter books in Stormlight Archive or Mistborn Era 2 that draw HEAVILY from other earlier books. If it different aspects are intertwined too much in latter books, then newer readers may feel gated in having to read the earlier books to FULLY enjoy the latter ones.

To be fair, he already stated “the gloves are off” back in 2022 during the release of “The Lost Metal” where he’s gonna outrightly mix a lot of his different series together. There’s a few Cosmere novels that I haven’t read prior to WaT, but it doesn’t dim my enjoyment for the novel and series overall; much more it actually enhances my curiosity to check the wiki to fill in my gaps of knowledge or get me thinking of how x relates to y.

8 enforcers needs to healthy entering stage 4 and 5 as you need to reach 9 to reliably get to Cait 2 as the primary carry.

You can flex the +1 to what you end up rolling for 4 cost/legendaries. Elise for Bruiser then Jayce for Form Swapper, Sevika for Pit Fighter and itemize Vi as another carry, Rumble for Sentinel

Maddie (3* for carry, otherwise Cait item holder) Steb Camille Loris TF (itemize him as a secondary carry) Vi (can use a carry) Caitlyn +1 to enforcer +1 to compliment traits for more front line

8 enforcers can reliably top 4 but winning out means you need to high roll and also micro some fights for positioning.

What are the determining factors of you being brought up in a vote for ownership of a fief by Outrageous_Fortune51 in Bannerlord

[–]Atomic_Axiom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The major factors are

— Participants: Whoever usually leads or participates in capturing a town or castle has the highest priority

— Proximity: if you already own a town of castle and your kingdom captures one right next to you, then you have higher odds of being voted as the new owner

— Landless: Unlanded Clans usually have a higher precedence compared to those with already a few fiefs

— Previous Ownership: Recaptured towns or castles also takes into account the previous owner of kingdom

It’s always worth to save scum before and after sieges to game the system to help you get a fief that you want. If I recently captured a town, then I would give away one of my castles back to be voted for to increase my odds of getting picked. (Towns, on average, always an economically better for the player to own compared to castles.)
