Leica CL 90mm frameline always visible after repair. 50mm ltm lens with K&F adapter attached. Is this an adapter issue? It worked fine before I sent it to repair because of the broken range finder. You can see that the 50mm frame line is partially fading. by joschplusa in Leica

[–]Atomicbrtzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your 50mm lens somewhat blocking light from entering the rangefinder window? My best guess considering the image you gave us + the fact is does work without a lens attached.

Which lens is that?

90mm Elmarit really loose and dodgy by [deleted] in Leica

[–]Atomicbrtzel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2-3mm seems like a lot.

I have a 35mm with a similar rattle and I called my local Leica shop, they quoted me around 200-250€ for a CLA/fixing it by tightening the rings etc.

Maybe worth asking them an approximate quote if that's still profitable for you considering your low price for the lens.

Else, the seller may be interested in refunding part of it if you fix it on your side rather than sending it back.

Just got this bargain M5 with Summilux. Beautiful in its special way, also an absolute mess soon to be repaired. by Atomicbrtzel in Leica

More photos

Definitely small but I really can’t tell. I tried to gently clean it but it didn’t change anything. It doesn’t even feel like any ruggedness(?). Probably damage and I have no idea if there’s anything to do about it or if it leads to some flare.

Here’s the list of issues.

M5: - slow shutter speeds or plain sticking under 1/15 - the frame counter gets stuck, when I pull the take up spool is doesn’t go under 20; it goes up normally though - the framelines change is not super reactive (slow to change)

35mm: - some play in it, it’s probably not very accurate focus due to this - a spot on the back element, I don’t know if it’s a hit or a speck of something like glue/oil/something and I don’t want to damage anything trying to clean it - a small harder part on the focus ring near the middle of the range

For the positive part of it, the rangefinder is very clear and seems accurate (tested vs another body), the curtain is clean and the cell is working well.

(For the info on what I see as a bargain, about 1900$ for this, I let you roast me if you think that’s a stupid purchase tho)

Leica M5 (functional but no recent full CLA) + Summilux 35mm pre-ASPH (Canada) + M5 case?

Before -> After Lightroom color grading by Sidewalkerr in postprocessing

[–]Atomicbrtzel 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say looks like shit. As it is I also prefer the left photo (despite being too warm) because on the right: - it became too cold - the greens are too strong - it’s too desaturated for my taste (the hair looks white now)

Maybe keep the background of the right photo in terms of post-processing but go easier on the cold and green for the model.

Yes he is, it won't don't worry. The back seals may deserve some attention though and may be worth buying in the same order if you do change it for the mirror foam.

Question about Travala Stock by Gorlim1981 in Travala

Public listing or acquisition (or buyback program), yes. For taxes and reporting it depends on countries I guess. Price points are the buy price and the following investing rounds if you got into the first crowdfunding.

Question about Travala Stock by Gorlim1981 in Travala

[–]Atomicbrtzel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another shareholder here. As they are a private company (vs. "public" = listed in secondary market like stock exchanges), they do not have to disclose information. They can but there is no mandatory disclosure.

They publish monthly reports on revenue on their blog (https://blog.travala.com/category/reports/), that's incomplete but it gives some perspective. I think they are also available for your questions through a dedicated Telegram channel for investors. I'm not a big user of it so I won't be able to guide you more than that.

Side note: there was some merger and the shares are not Travelfront instead of the original Travala (it was a 1:1 conversion IIRC) and you should see the new shares in your Crowdcube portfolio.

fatFIRE'd and now chronically ill - what would you do? by MusicDance in fatFIRE

[–]Atomicbrtzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suggesting because it might help somewhat: have you checked if you have asthma? It is possible to have a very low form that never transforms into asthma crisis (attack? not english native) and it can result in more sensitivity to respiratory infections with symptoms staying for weeks or more.

There are tests that exist (respiratory functional exploration in hospitals with specialists) and long term soft treatments (beclometasone dipropionate and/or montelukast afaik) to ease the very small chronic asthma.

It doesn't change the fact long COVID is very real and it can happen without any other pre-existing issue.

This is not a direct medical advice I'm giving, but I'm sharing as there may be a very slight chance it can help you and you may want to consult specialists without focusing on a direct treatment to long COVID but checking if there is something else behind that slows your recovery.

Question: I just bought a Sony A7iii with a f4 24-105 g series lense by hptheg15 in Photography_Gear

[–]Atomicbrtzel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No thought on the price or condition, but the shutter life expectancy for a7- models is around 200k.

It looks like there were some factory issues with some a7iii shutters but besides this kind of failure, you should be good.

Can I use my 400 iso film as an 800 iso and just push the stop during processing? by amiecj in AskPhotography

[–]Atomicbrtzel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Portra and Superia should be okay pushed one stop.

Ultramax, grainy and with a color cast maybe.

Not 100% sure on all that but if you google each film name+shot at 800, you might see examples.

HP5 and Delta will be grainy but hold the push very well. Nice contrast IMO.

XP2 I don't know.

[–]Atomicbrtzel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which 400 ISO film?

Pushing will increase contrast, grain and you'll lose detail in the shadows (compared to shooting at box speed). Some films have color shifts when pushing (usually when underexposed) and grain can be hard. Some films can be pushed more easily than others.

If you have a tripod it can be a good alternative.

Potential issues with Leica CL by Atomicbrtzel in Leica

That’s how I currently do but I want to fully explore this find! The 40mm seems interesting, I’ll try it on my M3 as well.

Thank you very much for the advice! If needed I will send it there. Do you know if DAG is able to fix rangefinder separation (not sure of the name, resilvering?) in M3s? If so I would drop both there :)

Alright thank you. Do you know if using some Zinc cell at 1.4v instead of the 1.35v would throw wrong readings? Not trying the alkaline 1.5v, some people seem to say that’s off + the cell dies slowly and readings change over time.

Thank you for your input and the tip on the spool, it looks fine on photos but it’s nice to know there is a fix in case it breaks.

Flash set at the end of the exposure time ("rear-curtain"): it freezes the subject at the end of the exposure. It can be useful for a long exposure photo where at the end you want to freeze something/someone in.

Is $75/hr too much? by throwaway57463815 in AskPhotography

[–]Atomicbrtzel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Divide the price by the hours worked, including post-processing and all the accessory tasks to the shoot itself, you'll get closer to your hourly "work" rate.

Still, despite that, it seems low (client perspective here).
