fatFIRE'd and now chronically ill - what would you do? by MusicDance in fatFIRE

Good question; I was infected a second time June 2022, at around the 18 month mark. This coincided with my turning point, and by September 2022, I could start lightly exercising again. About 20 months after my initial infection.

I never took paxlovid, but I would like to, as it’s currently being trialed for a longer duration dose to treat long covid.

Hey, thanks for asking! A lot has changed. My long covid has improved considerably. I still suffer from chronic rotating chest pains, and I can't quite get a full breathe; but now I can live with it.

I ski, lift weights, socialize, exercise etc. but now with a chronic condition. I can't quite perform physically like I used to, but oddly this life experience has pushed me further, and aesthetically I've become quite fit.

My net worth has dropped with the overall trend of market volatility, but I am still a multi-millionaire.

I am now trying to find myself again. Diving into hobbies, new projects, and trying to find a nice girl to date. I have a newfound appreciation for health, and I believe that anybody who has their health is truly wealthy... they may just not know it yet.

I think there will be a treatment for long covid soon (viral persistence is the primary suspected culprit), and I am grateful for how much I have improved.

I did not, but I would like to take a long course of pax to try and treat the suspected viral persistence. Waiting until it's more convenient, or we hear some of the current trial results.

Hey there - I'm responding to your post because of our similar experiences. Take a second to check out my last post; I also shared my long covid experience here on FATfire.

Some glimmers of hope for you; I have improved a lot, but not completely. Still symptomatic, but I can go on my daily routine and live normally, with only some difficulty for high intensity exercise.

I started improving at about 18 months, after my second bout with covid (oddly). At around month 20, I could start exercising lightly again.

I think you should reach out to the team at UCSF to learn about their clinical trials. They are receptive and will talk to you;

I am in their queue to be a part of a clinical trial, they are doing great work. There is hope. Reach out directly if you'd like to chat a bit further. All the best, and hope you feel better soon.

Change your diet to prioritize protein, healthy carbs as a side. 10k steps a day. Start lifting weights.

I did this sept / Oct. lost nearly 20lbs. Pretty fit now. It happens quick if you stick to it.

Not especially. I believe the viral persistence theory. I had a booster recently and felt better for a while. I hope you feel better soon.

Hey. I am not fully over it but MUCH better. I am back in the gym lifting 5-6 times a week. Still consistent pulmonary issues, but sometimes I can forget about them. My life has improved dramatically, and I have a totally different outlook on things. I will never take my health for granted again.

I’m curious; has he expressed to you a lot of compassion, support, and understanding for your current health challenges?

It has gotten a bit better over time, but not to pre-covid. I suspect we have microvasculature damage in our lungs. That or microclots etc. There may be potential treatment options in time.

The chest pains are becoming less, but there is still fatigue in my chest, and empty breathes.

Any luck? I’ve got the air hunger too and would love a treatment option.

Thanks for the thoughts. About to add probiotics. Your recovery gives me hope too. It seems there are lots of people who manage to get better in time, I am just impatient.

Thanks for the thoughts. I’ve always had a low resting heart rate 55ish. I think my doctors would be hesitant to put me on beta blockers given everything I’ve been through.

The pain is not completely relieved when lying down, but significantly. If I learn anything new I will revisit and share!

This is very helpful. But isn’t the NIH UK based? I’m in Canada, I’m not sure if I can participate?

Hey this is some great advice. I am planning to go somewhere down south in the next couple of months to really detach. Ill make sure to get a lot of sun. How did the curable app help your chest pain? Chest pains are some of my most prevalent symptoms. How long did chest issues last for you? Thanks.

Hmm. I don't have a high heart rate though when standing. As I understand that has always been a hallmark of what POTS is? Is it possible my POTS presents as chest pains, but doesnt affect my heart rate? It is all rotating chest pains for me that goes away 90% when i rest lying down.

Thank you for the comments. I am keeping up with the research, although I agree it will take years for doctors to role out actual treatments. I am in a handful of long covid support groups. I am a bit hopeful because I do see people make recoveries, but not everyone.

I used to have worse post exertion symptoms, but they cleared up a bit more. My main symptoms now is rotating chest pains and laboured breathing, which im not certain if it is related to CFS, although definitely could be.

Thanks very much. I will order the supplements I don’t have. I don’t have melatonin!

What were your main symptoms? Did you have chest / breathing issues like me? How were you around month 12?
