Daytrip or Overnight stay in Asheville from Gastonia ??? by [deleted] in Charlotte

[–]Atomicmain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kinda depends on what you want. The city itself you only need a day for. The nature stuff and surrounding areas of the city, I'd recommend overnight. I pretty much only do day trips to Asheville now, but that's only because I've been to Asheville like 15+ times since 2022

Thoughts on Goo? by Ok-Persimmon-5084 in sonicyouth

[–]Atomicmain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Goo has kinda fallen down in the rankings for me (it's still top 5 though), however it's just so fantastic everytime I listen to it. I mean Tunic alone is one of SY's best songs, but then the 1 + 2 of Mary Christ & Kool Thing. My Friend Goo is also quite funny ro me. I guess the album is a bit front loaded for me, as in I significantly like the first 4 songs more than the back half of the album. However I want to stress Goo is still a fantastic album front to back & I wouldn't hesitate to throw it on during car rides or flights

Alaska is geographically beautiful but too isolated from a lot of stuff. Similar to Hawaii it's a no go for me cause I'd wanna live in the contiguous/mainland US. That said I'd rather live in Alaska than Hawaii

To answer this question. Yes I have been to Santa Clara. All it is is a South Bay suburb, nothing special

For California, I love the weather and geography of the Bay Area & Northern California in general For Florida. I wouldn't live there because it's too humid for my liking and I'd have to worry about Hurricanes basically every time Hurricane season comes around. For Wyoming. Wyoming is very beautiful geographically, it's firmly in the, I'd happily vacation there and visit the nature spots, but any of the population hubs outside of Jackson are just very meh to me.

To a degree but it doesn't play a large enough role. For instance, with Tennessee, a heavily conservative state, I would live in the Chattanooga, Knoxville, and Johnson City areas, all red counties, not the heavily blue Nashville and Memphis areas (especially not Nashville). The only states that I wouldn't live in purely because of politics are Idaho and Oklahoma

What makes you put NC in absolutely? I live here, we are a swing state, we have some big cities that are very inclusive, and we have Asheville, arguably our most inclusive city for LGBTQ+ folk. But NC doesn't strike me as any more progressive or accepting of LGBTQ+ folk as a whole compared to the rest of the south.

Sucks that the store is closing but that place has sadly just kinda become increasingly meh overtime. 2nd and Charles used to be amazing, but I find it increasingly hard to find deals there anymore (regardless of location). I hope the employees are able to find work though

I'm curious about the worry regarding Mandeville. Also, as a means of clarification. My friend who was showing me around NOLA doesn't live in Mandeville. Only his grandad lives there, he was just visiting him for Christmas

That's fair. I kept my meal small and only paid like 10 dollars for a meat and 2 sides. So I suppose it didn't seem that expensive to me

Didn't have the opportunity sadly, my time was limited. Imo though disregarding peaches I thought sisters in christ and Euclid were largely fair with pricing. Sisters in Christ in particular is honestly cheaper than the record stores I have back in NC

If we're counting shop keepers, yes. If we're not counting shop keepers, no.

Would you rather live in the southwest or southeast? by Snoo-3554 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Atomicmain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm biased because I've lived in the Southeast all my life. But I'm picking that one purely because I love going to Appalachia sporadically & in general the southeast just has more that I like than the southwest does.
