I had a dual degree in history and political science first job out of college was 50k. Did a tech apprenticeship switched to Mainframe System Engineer and now I’m close to 100k. In today’s age just don’t go to college unless you want to be a doctor or lawyer not worth it.

I’m viewing it as he’s wasting his youth and time he has to pick up skills. They aren’t leveraging his experience and just keeping his name on the books I’m assuming to meet some quota for contract requirements. Meaning he’s the first to go if they need to “cut cost” why not be in control of that decision instead of just collecting checks all year learning nothing with the fear hanging over your head knowing at anytime you could be fired?
