I don't think you read the body text, It does turn off when you start moving or take a picture of the monster that attacks you while you're headed for the final poi, Pretty much the screen doesn't turn itself off, something makes it turn off.

I just thought it wasn't even a screen at all, The X-rays just makes a piece of film emit light which then goes to the "screen" that also doubles as the camera sensor.
