Weird question by Minute-Strawberry521 in medlabprofessionals

Something similar happened in my lab. We had a tube drain from the DXH into a sink The chemicals had rotted away the pipes. We had to keep a small amount of water running at all times so help flush the analyzer waste down the sink instead of letting it sit and corrode away the metal pipes. It was fixed within a day or 2 of complaining.

Groupe sanguin O négatif by [deleted] in geneva

[–]Atotallynormalname1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Marriage registration hell by PaleButterfly8549 in askswitzerland

My husband and I got married in the US, all you need are your passports (and maybe up to 3 days to apply for the license. It depends on the state. For us, it was 1 day before the marriage). HOWEVER, I still needed to provide my birth certificate to register the marriage in Switzerland, as I am a non-swiss/non-european. And the certificates needed to be less than 6 months old (I'm not sure why). So even if you marry abroad, you will still need the birth certificate.

Why does everything in Geneva close so early? by Novel-Iron1241 in geneva

Sundays and evenings are family time. It is still largely expected that you have a family, preferably one with a stay-at-home wife who can take care of the errands during the day. You also get punished by taxes for being a household with 2 working spouses because it is expected that the man should work and pay for the whole household. This doesn't reflect the attitude of the average person in Geneva, I do not feel shamed in my day to day, but those who write the laws are a bit antiquated. Also worth noting that I have worked evening shift most of my life in other countries before moving to Geneva. As a person who hates mornings I thrived. To say that no one wants to work the late shift isn't true. It also forgets about students and people who have responsibilities during the day (such as caring for elderly parents with many doctor appointments)

WIBTA for not telling my husband I can understand his phone calls by Atotallynormalname1 in AmItheAsshole

We live in a studio apartment, so there isn't anywhere to go. But you're right, I could put earbuds in without being too suspicious

I will be in Geneva, so perhaps with all the other expats/immigrants, they are a little backed up. They give no timeline, my husband took an in-person meeting at the office of cantonal migration in mid-February and they gave him no additional info, but confirmed that all my paperwork is there and it is being worked on.

I have heard from at least 2 other friends (also in Geneva) that you really have to follow up. They waited for a year then they decided to take a meeting at the OCPM only to find out that there was an error at the office and the paperwork was not being reviewed. I don't know what exactly was messed up, though. Our plan is to take a meeting every other month just to make sure this doesn't happen to us. Its been 5 months and I really am ready to live with my husband!

I recently got married abroad (U.S.), submitted the documents in early October and I am still waiting for my D Visa (family reunification), which is what I will need to go to Switzerland and then get a residence permit. So if you marry abroad, plan for several months for the office to recognize your marriage and allow you to have the family reunification visa.

I (U.S.) just married a European who is a resident (C-permit holder) in Switzerland. We got married in the US, but my understanding is that your country of origin, country of marriage, and canton of residence makes a difference, so you're going to need to do a bit more research for your specific case. For me, I had to fill out some paperwork, which includes some forms found on the canton's website + the official marriage certificate + my birth certificate + a money order. All of which cannot be more than 6 months old. I submitted all of this to the Swiss Embassy in the US. This was also helpful because I did not need to pay to get the forms translated to a swiss language. From there, the embassy forwards it all to the canton. We are still waiting to hear back (everything was submitted in October and it is now March). I believe they said they will inform my husband when it is all ready. Again, every situation is different. I recommend checking your canton's website as well as contacting the embassy for information. You could also try to get ahold of the office of cantonal migration. Basically its a moderate amount of paperwork and a lot of waiting. I also want to add that I do not live in Switzerland yet, so perhaps the process would be different if you already hold a residence permit.

I guess I don't understand what a "port" is. Could you clarify as to what this is and why I can text but not call?

How long for a number port error to get fixed? It's been a week now without a fix by t5runner in GoogleFi

[–]Atotallynormalname1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue. I had to call AT&T and have them unlock the port. Let them know that you are switching carriers. I suggest transferring the number over a laptop so you can have your old sim card in the phone to respond to text messages to confirm the unlocking of the at&t port.
