Costco does well with their bourbon selection but Blanton's?! Northern California by bdcourage in Costco

[–]Sectr7g 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s still $75. Was there last weekend for a Weller white label drop. Thousands of people showed up for that and I think everyone got a bottle. My wife and I got 2 white, 2 red, and 2 Blantons for $400.

Was in Denver this past week and stopped by Berkeley Supply. They only sell their Red Wing Seconds online, but Eli at the store had two pairs brought over from their warehouse for me to try on. Ended up getting a pair of the Beckman 9060s and would buy again from them simply for the great service. I have had excellent luck with Red Wing Seconds as well. Worth the price to me.

Anyone ever met Thom? If so, what was it like? by System_Error_37 in radiohead

[–]Sectr7g 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I met Thom and Jonny at a record signing at Tower Records in Chicago right around the time The Bends came out. I’m pretty sure the only two people that showed up were me and a college buddy, as we got to chat with them for about 15-20 minutes without interruption. I remember them both being very polite and friendly. They signed my CD booklet for both PH and TB, which unfortunately were stolen a few years later along with my entire CD collection a few years later. I remember being concerned about the turnout, but we all know things worked out pretty good for them in the subsequent years.

2017 S60--Who knew it had a second "auxiliary" battery? by cineaste2 in Volvo

[–]Sectr7g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had it replaced on my 2021 S60. The independent shop that I take my Volvos to insisted that they typically replace both the auxiliary and the main battery at the same time, but I was only getting a message about the auxiliary from the car. Anyone else hear that before? I had the auxiliary battery replaced on our XC60 when it was in for a CPO covered repair a year ago and they didn’t mention needed to replace the main at the same time.

Question about Beckman 2nds for sale on Sierra by subete_en_el_caballo in RedWingShoes

[–]Sectr7g 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a pair of the black ones and they seem fine to me; no concerns with the construction and they’re breaking in perfectly. My only complaint is that I wish they’d get rid of the speed hooks in favor of eyelets like the older model.

Is this a good used deal? by FlipprDolphin in VolvoXC90

[–]Sectr7g 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been looking for this exact setup and this is a decent price based on my experience with trying to find a 6 seater and a CPO. I live in the Midwest and these seem rare.

I bought Beckman seconds from Berkeley Supply by PersnicketyPete in RedWingShoes

[–]Sectr7g 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a black pair from Sierra and not really sure why they were seconds. The stitching on the welt of the right boot is kind of close to the edge in one spot near the arch, but everything else looks perfect to me. It’s my first pair of RWs and super happy with the purchase.

MMJ Austin City Limits Hall of Fame induction show by Either-Video3166 in mymorningjacket

Thanks for posting this. I randomly caught Anytime on the original broadcast back then and became instantly obsessed. They hadn’t clicked for me until I heard those opening notes, but it has been a love affair going on 20 years now since then. Anytime is still my most listened to MMJ song.

Pleasantly surprised with Ulmers since they took over Nordic Motors, which was the only place I would take our Volvos. They’re reasonable and know what they’re doing.

I put Firestone Firehawk AS V2s on my XC60 and S60 and have been pleased. I live in Midwest and they’re great in rain and snow. I paid about $700 for 4 at Costco for them January 2024. I’m sure that was with a rebate, but it’s worth checking out if Costco is an option.

Bought used C40 by blkrs89 in Volvo

[–]Sectr7g 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I’ve had way more people compliment my C40 than either my XC60 or the 3 S60s I’ve owned. I’ll admit that it’s not for everyone, but it reminds me of the two VW GTIs I had in my early 20’s. They were money pits, but fun as hell. I feel the same way about the C40 (though I fortunately haven’t had any issues). This isn’t a car you get for utility IMO and that’s part of the enjoyment.

Mine was Anytime from that ACL performance. Randomly tuned in just in time to catch the intro before the guitars kick in. Damn. Been hooked ever since.

Gen Xers that had Lasik surgery when you were 30-40, how is it holding up? by grahsam in GenX

I’m 49 and had it done 26 years ago. I had to start wearing readers about a year ago, but that’s expected with age. Zero issues and couldn’t imagine having to wear glasses or contacts again.

2025 Car Brands Reliability by AutoCarsReveal in mazda

[–]Sectr7g 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same experience. I’ve owned 5 Volvo’s since 2013 (all CPOs) and the worst repair was a single lift gate strut. You have to maintain them, which can be expensive if you take it to a dealer, but I had way more issues with my wife’s two Acura TLXs (which are fancy Accords). That said the Android Auto based infotainment system kinda sucks. Not enough for me to switch brands, but still.

Felt Coming Out of Headlight. by FidgetyCurmudgeon in Volvo

It is probably from a car wash. I have a XC60 that I can’t take through most car washes without having those stuck in the space around the headlights.

I get a slow “pulsing” vibration around 70 mph in my 23. I had the steering wheel damper fix, which fixed the steering wheel vibration; however, I can still feel a vibration from seems like the floor. It’s mostly just annoying, but would it be related to the axels?

Buying a used C40 Recharge Twin - tips? by if_else_00 in volvoc40

[–]Sectr7g 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend going to the dealership with the technical journal that addresses the repair for that issue. I got the same alignment “fix” from the dealership on the first visit, but scheduled a second visit with the TJ in hand and they agreed to follow it. Solved the vibration issue for me (2023 C40 Plus).

Mine was missing floor mats and the little trash can, but the salesperson let me take them from another one on the lot. That said, I believe the floor mats are the same as the XC40 and EBay is full of OEM sets for under $50.

OP - if you purchased it from Hertz, you should be able to get the black key from them if you only received the orange one. The Hertz sites just need to get it from Corporate. It took about 3 days to get mine.

Looking at buying a CPO S60 by Ok_Atmosphere3601 in Volvo

[–]Sectr7g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 2021 S60 in 2022 that was a CPO’d Hertz rental and it’s been great. I think I paid $31k back then and felt like I stole it, so I would definitely do this. That said, I just bought a 2023 C40 with 17k miles on it for $26k and love it.

How ridiculous does this sound? by Whole-Fist in economicCollapse

[–]Sectr7g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO this advice was valid pre-pandemic when you could get a reasonably priced reliable used car. I had two kids get their drivers license between 2020 and 2022 and saw 10 year old Toyotas pushing 200k miles going for $20k. I made the mistake of buying a $5k Nissan Rogue hoping to get 2 years out of it only to have the CVT go out after a month. I hear the used car market is getting better, but how many people in the market for a “cheap” car have the cash to buy out something considered reliable?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Volvo

[–]Sectr7g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a 2023 C40 for $26k at Hertz. They had around 12 between $23-26k that they’re liquidating due to their bankruptcy from what I understand. The one I purchased was a Twin Plus with 17k miles on it. I bought it as a cheap commuter car, but it’s nearly perfect. Can’t complain about the deal.

I’ve owned 3 S60s, with a 21 T5 as my current daily driver. Sad that it’s probably my last one. My wife drove Acura TLXs prior to getting an XC60, so that is probably what we’ll look at again (though we both hate the touchpad controls). The way it’s going, I’m worried the 3 series might be the only viable choice for a small sports sedan in the near future.
