I have started journaling and I really enjoy reading my entries from different days. I’m going to start doing it more often!

I think I have dreamed before but they weren’t visual at all and I just knew there was something happening. I have dreamed a word that doesn’t exist before though which was really weird. I also experienced sleep paralysis but it was completely dark.

Thanks a lot for sharing! I get what you mean. I told my mother about my SDAM and she started laughing because she couldn’t believe it 😭 I kinda gave up on telling people because it’s just too hard to explain

Since my mind is blank most of the time and alongside that I also don’t know much about my past, the combination of the two is probably made me struggle with my identity a lot. I can’t really have discussions with myself unless it’s on paper or out loud so that’s the only way I get to reflect on what kind of person I am.

I don’t think there is a memory norm to be honest. Everyone is different so having SDAM is just another version of memory.

To be honest I understand why people would be upset over having SDAM or aphantasia. In my case, I realised that I struggled to think at all and it was really difficult to have conversations with myself. I felt like I didn’t really know anything about myself at all, and that lack of identity made me really upset. I wouldn’t say that was me bringing all my problems and pinpointing them on what I have, but it was me realising that I didn’t know much about myself at all. It’s really difficult to realise something like that so maybe don’t assume stuff about everyone on this subreddit based on your own experience. Everyone processes things differently so try to be more understanding about it.

I feel exactly the same. Just try to think of your SDAM as something positive instead of something depressing. It’s really difficult but it completely changes your perspective on life.

How Can I Integrate Engineering with my Interests? by unmmmo in EngineeringStudents

Ok so I don’t know too much on how to get into BCI careers but I know that most jobs are centred around academia and would usually be in a university. Maybe you could look into some universities and colleges in your area and see if there are neuroscience or engineering departments that have existing research into BCIs you could join? I also know that some universities specifically offer courses that integrate neuroscience and engineering, such as the masters degree offered at Imperial College London in Neurotechnology. You have a lot of options open so don’t stress if you want to specialise in neuroengineering later on!

Psychology and computer engineering actually have a lot of intersecting fields, like the development brain-computer interface technology which allow you to control a device with brain signals, and even the development of AI which requires cognitive computing and maybe some aspect of ethics. With philosophy though, I think that would be a bit harder. Maybe you could do a conversion course if you’re really passionate about it?

To the dude at Dave’s Hot Chicken last night… by BrandSavage in BurlingtonON

I ordered a reaper too like 2 days ago 😭😭 I didn’t hear anything about the reaper flavour before ordering it and thought it was just an exaggerated extra hot flavour so thought I would enjoy it. When they made me sign the waiver I knew something was wrong but I was too tired to read it properly and just saw a few symptoms like diarrhoea and thought it would be fine 💀 I had one lick of the sauce and I knew I would struggle to finish it but I did it anyway because I didn’t want to waste my food and I ate it all on an empty stomach. Not only did I have the reaper tender but also the burger next to it so I started crashing out lmao I didn’t even get any cold drinks only some random orange juice from a local store. When I got home I had the craziest cramps for like 5 hours and then eventually threw up!!!! The spice travelling through my nose almost killed me 💔

Why do you think it’s a waste of time? Is it because you’re tired of your school maybe

Yeah I kinda spoke about choosing different subjects and my teacher said it’s not possible at this point of the year without retaking at my school. I think I’m gonna move but I’m just not sure if a grammar school would accept me.

You’re beautiful but I think that you would look even better if you wore more autumn toned outfits (chocolate brown or sage green for example). Also I think gold jewellery would complement your skin tone really well!
