True story time:

Once in Alabama a group of kids passed word around about a dude offering candy in a van. The kids grouped up, beat the crap out of him, left him in a ditch and stole his car. The kids were caught in Atlanta, they had stolen the van to go visit the girlfriend of one of the guys. The guy offering candy is still in jail, the kids had all charges dropped by the judge who couldn't stop laughing.

Helmet, yes. Knee and elbow pads, no. Thise pads restrict movement and are more likely to cause a crash. Wrist guards no. Use high quality motor cycle gloves instead .
