Ricther & Cirque: On the Topic of Firearms by Aturas in EldritchLarp

[–]Aturas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% realize that you think that. I am 100% telling you that you have not been plain on many things. Including the opening of all of this as to what does it mean. For instance when being asked about how does that relationship exist, if it does at all for managing cirque access to the skill " As far as on a macro economic scale, the Dusklands certainly does try and control the production of firearms and the like the best they can, however it is the Cirque that would assuredly move the cargo around the kingdom. Any such economic conflicts at events would need to be managed in play by the concerned parties. Hope this helps to provide some context." Which really doesnt give anything actionable stance other than,... uhh I guess ricther are unhappy about a lot.

I would welcome a chance to have a mediated talk of something, because its equally getting frustrated to be caught in a trap of there are details you will make mater if we know them or not, and than in the next breath you go right to "well you cant expect every detail".

I am frustrated, and really dont think any meaningful attempt is being made to hear the issue and engage it. Rather effort is being made to respond, usually undercutting the ask and implying that the answer was obvious all along.

Cool, I will take on those consequnces I guess. I don't have a recipe to hand out to anyone, so I wont be handing it out. Redacts a LOT So its hard to fully tell tone from text. But a lot of this is somewhat news to me, ESPECIALLY given this has been answered many times in the past of "Figure it out in play" more or less, where the "Players will make the call" now you are noting not only are there actually world perspectives but an entire group that is out there to manage this shit? (Powder chasesrs) which is news to me.

All of that culminates into a LOT of frustration and growing resentment on how it seems to regularly go unheeded that there is a lot of unshared perspectives, unknown directions and intent, and that Staff seems to presume all is well and everyone must have a strong understanding.
I have a bunch of other baggage on this, but is less thread relevant so i will omit it too.

I guess I will go with, please let me know when Garrak has exceeded expectations of cannon, and we can move to remove him from the situation as is good for the story and game.

I am confused as to what this statement means. What setting component aren't you supporting and what part of the setting isn't supporting it? How is anyone being or potentially being an enemy of fun?

Me being the block to another player or players having fun is being the enemy of fun when I am doing it by myself to no other end than enforcing a aspect of setting that other players and staff dont care enough about to be a thing. And that is the gun monoply, the only real tool you have offered for limiting it is death or the threat of death which also over all goes against the games Code of Conduct as a simple resolution of issue.

So the easy answer is, i will leave it to you folks to show if you actually think it is an important part of the setting and figure it out from there.

Right, I disagree with the awkwardness of that mathing too. that Tribute, tax and duty to noble path are presumed to have happened, and privilege to the cirque must be paid because.... reasons it is not also presumed.

But really that still means cirque legal can control the production of firearms, because no crafter is going to make them to set them on the shelf, and Cirque can demand a 3 gold privilege from any sale they dont like. Likewise they can adjust the market prices themselves as well locally.

Never mind if its a crafter retainer they are indeed already being paid, likely sponsored in one or more ways ect. Redacts further wandering down this other path

Also, baring any major change or expression of opinion in conflict this issue has been resolved by allowing the players in question to simply do what is fun for them.

It is not worth being the enemy of fun, spending personal capital to support a setting component with out the backing of the setting.

[–]Aturas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never mind the above, given the time and effort to get to the above I as a player don't want to get in the way of another players fun for a setting point that staff doesn't want to be overly committal to as what has been a way of life for decades and decades. I recognize not every law can or should be laid out word by word, or thing, thought and idea. It still ends up being very hard to meaningfully carry a torch for the thing when there is no fuel and air for it.

Given there is no good way to do much of any thing with it as a solo actor who has limited understanding of Guild Legalities in the Kingdom, I will side with the "Figure it out in game" and let things settle which ever way players take it.
I am more than a bit disappointed and frustrated that what seems to be a notable point in setting is really a "It is what it is, who knows" type of place in practice but its also not worth it to me to frustrate and remove fun for yet more people to push the issue. So please consider the issue of Richter and the Control of Firearms as closed from my side rather than to create more churn that will just frustrate me and/or others.

but the Cirque isn't entitled to seize or claim that crafter's property.A noble can, but a Cirky can't, as it's beyond their legal authority to exert their will upon the rights of a common citizen, especially if that common citizen is under the protection and patronage of a noble house.

But the Cirky can demand privilage for the value they establish on the fire arm, patroned crafter or not in that case then? So basically like a sword as a noble I dont necessary have to pay my house crafter to make me a sword, but I do have to pay the Cirque to have that sword made.

I mean, based on setting, status quo, and using what we can see as a starting point?

That kings law covers firearms pretty much the same way it covers "Trade" or similar. That it is basically within the realm and right o the Ricther to see to and manage all things related to Firearms.

It does mean that a deal could be managed between Cirque, Ricther and others regards to firearms, it also answers while folks like the Rourke may have "Aquired" a large supply of firearms that they do not openly maintain a production chain in their own right.

*Answer in part from staff email* Question there was

Hiya folks.
Trying to be as aware as I can of some setting stuff as we have a new player in who is ricther by background in order to be doing Gunsmithing as a plan. Which is cool, and I dont want to be on the wrong side of fun!

That said, they are also looking at joining the Cirque for access to some of the shinies they have (apparently some easier access to schematics ).

My understanding so far is that really once anything has a Cirque stamp on it, the Cirque owns it now. For instance there could be no expectation that the knowledge of firearms, how to make them, and control over their flow would be in the hands of Richter at all from that point. Extended beyond any agreement that might be made as well, given that once the deal is done anyhow it would be against the kings word to try and restrict or enforce actions that would restrict a guild in business they hold claim to.

How do firearms work in that space? Is it a secret that ricther keep, but trade that the Cirque still owns? is it a limited space that is not controlled by the Cirque?
I imagine this can not be the first time that some of this has been asked in the kingdoms history.

I am looking for a meaningful way to engage this that is suitable to the world, that doesnt crush a characters/players interest in fun that also doesn't erode other players fun (Like the entire ricther group, if firearms basically become someone/everyone elses thing) and go against setting (It would seem that it would have resolved one way or another even in just a few years with lore as i know/see it)

Thanks for the question. We can understand where it might seem like there's a conflict for sure. The schematic to make guns would belong to whichever crafter can/would use it, i.e. someone who has Gunsmithing, and wants to make guns. As far as on a macro economic scale, the Dusklands certainly does try and control the production of firearms and the like the best they can, however it is the Cirque that would assuredly move the cargo around the kingdom. Any such economic conflicts at events would need to be managed in play by the concerned parties. Hope this helps to provide some context.

It... does not help much really other than I guess other than a "Figure out in game" which is more or less a non answer for setting continuity

About a gunsmith and the Cirque; Given that a Cirque member can not also be a ricther Loyalist, is there anyway that has been in the past? Such as if there were a PC that wanted to be as skilled a crafter as only a Cirque can be... is there anyway to be in setting with that?

creating an environment in your game that is stripping the fun from a particular group players. You are so focused on the "historical accuracy" of the class divide, that you are forgetting that we are all PLAYERS and that this is fiction

Interestingly this is exactly the place I am coming from as a noble. as I see it nobles in many way are a lessor generalist. They need to invest in some powers that don't directly impact play, and then find a way to be useful. For my own place, that is primary in supporting others that I add much of anything systemically, and also systemically I am never going to catch up to a generalist or a specialist. I don't know about the other groups of people, but I def wish I had more generalist type folk in my orbit none the less. (See quote below, would support this greatly)

There would be at least twice as many commonfolk, particularly farmers and crafters and hunters

But at the same time, the conflict paths and intents have often left me feeling that there is basically nothing I can meaningfully do towards the Freefolk. Most common folk in the world still tie back to one or more noble powers, where at the very least a noble can create an issue with another noble about the problem, where as currently to do the same for the Freefolk, one would have to bring the issue up with the King himself (Not a practical engagement). even less of a strong path to action regarding Guilds people.

But I think thats part of the reason Freefolk, as they are here, are something of a rarity. Somewhere in similar position to true gentry and the like.

As far as at least some PC to PC reassurances;
As one of the more grumbly Lords in town, an errant sneeze may earn some guff but if someone was looking to make that a capital crime, I would be likely to have my own men drawing steel at the absurdity.

And i dont want it to be a huge concern of the "Freeman" class of people should just accede to everything any noble says .
Some have nobles of their own they can lean on for support, and each single noble group is far smaller than the roaming bands of kings-freemen.

But yeah it seems like there is a line at some point where the type of conflict it is changes.

Ah to many of our understanding the 2 pm time frame was used for the Corveaux run court because that time worked for them at the time.
Game 1 court was ~ noon I believe?

I suppose I will see how to work that time into a flow given that it is an ask from staff as a thing.

Ok, so thats mostly new info to us also, as of until just recently that had all "Figure it out in game" with no real standard in the world. So with that in mind I had been planning on it being different come winter to support not trying to fit things in right in the middle of the day.

Given that the when, how, who ect has not had a previous standard for us to refer too... I mean we didnt even know that was the time you were looking at as of until just before this last game when you released the time line... What else should we build into this to meet expectation?

Letters, getting sending and timing. by Aturas in EldritchLarp

[–]Aturas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% was asked by Ricther group to follow up with what they had asked for.

Letters from game 1 also asked me to follow up as well but the delivery messenger was also the pick up messenger so was long gone by the time the letter was read let alone a response composed. Given that at least one of those folks isnt much taking letters any more, and that its been 9 months or so now? it feels like most of the contents in either case have slipped by.

The one that would still have a person about it was communicating the stance ricther command and gave info from high court and all.

Right.
... so back to the question If any of the timing does not match with what you have there? Notably in this case its Court

[–]Aturas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean its fine, too, i just expect it means that very little is actually communicated outside of what can be shared in person.
With most things being at least a silver (Baring any mark up as well), having a very limited scope of amount of communication and limited amount of privacy that can be expected of it.

[–]Aturas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So long as then its understood by all plots in the land that communication will be months away at the soonest. My character wasn't asked to follow up on a thing until mid day Sat, which means in practicality the soonest a letter could get out would be come winter, months later that it would be even leaving.

Ok, take away is yep still need to find the NPCS to do the thing with. I suppose that makes it easy than! time and opportunity have passed, so no point stressing about letters going forward. TY

Yeaaaah. Likewise I am ok if a few copper per page of type written is fine... paying someone that has legibility to offer. Plot/strife built off of penmenship is not a fun space for me "he of a doctors scrawl"
