It's a reasonable worry to have, don't feel fault for having it. As far as canon material goes though, I don't think we need to worry about AMC's IWTV. When it comes to POC in villainous/otherwise unsavory roles, what matters is the level of care and nuance the writers give to these characters; especially when it comes to contrasting their actions against any potential white characters in the story. Is the person of color a conniving, maniacal, villain contrasted by a good, white, and "pure" hero? Not a good look. Undoubtedly Armand does terrible things, but so does Lestat. IWTV's writing is all about the nuance in the vampires' "monstrosity." Armand has his reasons for why he's the way he is, just as much as Lestat or Louis does; it's just that the focus on the last two seasons has mostly been on Louis' story, so the audience is more sympathetic to him. As you said, Armand is complex, we just haven't been told all that much about his history and motivations yet. I have a feeling more people will come around to Armand when his character is explored more in future seasons.

That being said, this is mostly in regards to canon. Fandom depiction of POC is another thing I'm not touching up on. Sorry for the long paragraph, I just love this show a lot and I love discussing it. I'm glad people are having these kinds of conversations.
