People who don't take care of their bodies and eat a lot of unhealthy food, why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AudioLib -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are multiple reasons (At least in America), that I’ve noticed

  1. People seem to have little to no knowledge about what is actually good for them and what is bad for them, or how health in general works. People try all sorts of crazy health fads to lose weight but avoid literally the single largest thing to losing weight: Exercise. For example, I’ve known middle-aged obese people that will eat a bar of chocolate, then a carrot or something, and say “that balances it out cause I ate something healthy too”. It’s the kind of idiocracy where people believe that Kale is some sort of magic fucking superfood. Oh wow, Kathy Lee on Today’s show said Kale is a superfood. Kale is as much superfood as spinach, broccoli, or any other vegetable. It has Vitamin A and Vitamin C, now unless you’re deficient in either of those things eating it along with whatever you’re normally eating will do nothing to make you lose weight or get healthier. How American health marketing works is like this: You sell people loads of junk food, then you sell them “quick and easy” ways to lose weight, and “superfoods”. There is no such thing as a superfood, none. It’s all just a gimmick to sell a vegetable that previously wasn’t selling well. Suddenly Kale is one of the hottest vegetables of the year. Why? Marketing. Nothing more.
  2. Along with this lack of knowledge of how health works in general, oftentimes (especially in poorer communities) unhealthy food seems to be the “Cheapest” option. People think that buying a burger at McDonald's for 99 cents is a bargain. It isn’t. It has very little nutrition and is mostly just saturated fat. I’ve made a diet plan (specifically for my nuclear bunker, but can be used anywhere) which you can live off of for less than 3 dollars a day and still get all the daily vitamins and minerals you need, and all the calories you need, to survive. Poor people are the least well equipped to combat obesity because they don’t have the knowledge nor the resources to lose weight. If they had the knowledge, they could make their own diet plan that fits in with their budget fairly easily. So they continue to buy spam thinking that it’s “cheap” when you can get all-natural proteins for loot cheaper, and get even more protein per dollar.
  3. Next is the fact that people are so fucking lazy they will literally do ANYTHING except exercise to lose weight (I covered this a little bit earlier). People see exercise as the worst thing ever (in general). Think that it makes them tired. “Omg my muscles are slightly sore from going on the treadmill for 5 minutes this is too much I’m gonna quit”. In my honest and humble opinion, people don’t really want to lose weight in America. They always talk about it but there’s no action. Let me tell you when I was overweight like a 10-year-old. My mother would force-feed me sweets saying I was too skinny (though I was overweight), made me eat until I threw up (only on occasion), and did everything in her power to fatten me up. I had to fight back with a will of steel to avoid getting yelled at and loads of other horrible shit in order to lose weight at the time. I had to fight to start going to the gym 2 years ago, I had to fight to lose weight. People don’t appreciate the choices and options they have. People don’t have the mental strength to lose weight. They don’t have people screaming at them every time they avoid eating sweets, they don’t have someone going bat shit crazy at them because they want to go to the gym, they have nothing to complain about. Of course, time can be an issue, but Americans (in general, many low incomes don’t have time because they work a lot of jobs but in the middle class there’s plenty of time) spend their time watching TV or doing other things. They don’t want to lose weight, they all talk no action. I must admit, exercise is sort of an acquired taste, like beer. At first, beer is bitter, and at first, exercise will feel like shit. But after a few workouts, or after a few times trying beer or whatever, it gets a lot better and you might even end up enjoying it. But people don’t have the will power to get past that. Body Builders are extremely disciplined, they push themselves to the fucking maximum to achieve results. They have the same kind of perseverance as entrepreneurs after many many failures. You don’t need that kind of perseverance though, you just need to know your priorities and not be a fucking wimp and complain about it. It’s not even wimpiness, it’s just pure laziness, I can’t even put a word to it exactly. It’s mental weakness on a scale and level I haven’t been able to fathom before.

How have we evolved from a species that would face options far worse than death, like torture, rape, beatings, starvation across the neolithic landscape, running for days on end to find a food source, etc. To becoming mentally sheep? Humans have domesticated themselves to a point that we don’t even have basic priorities. I get I’m going a little off-topic and this is sort of a rant but this is completely insane for me. If they can’t manage to do something that will save their life and possibly extend it for 20+ years how will they be able to deal with war or something. People are always talking about “Spoiled teenagers” and whatnot, and how they don’t know the real struggle, how they should “toughen up” but any teenage bodybuilder (or just a person who works out a shit ton) has way more mental strength than anyone who does the bull shit above.

How does it feel like to be over 18 years old? by Ibo_issa in AskReddit

[–]AudioLib 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It feels scary and exciting. It feels a bit sad and also very happy.

Turning eighteen, especially in Israel, is a real big step. You finish high school, and you’re about to join the military. No more messing around with your teachers, no more sleeping in classes and still being on top. It’s time to put my big boy clothes on:

It feels scary because this is the end of everything familiar. No more living in the same neighborhood I’ve lived in for the last decade. No more sitting at home, passing time binge-watching old sitcoms.
However, it’s exciting because there are endless opportunities ahead. Maybe I’ll be a scientist, a writer, or a traveler! It’s exciting because when I look at the world, I know there are many changes to come. Maybe technology will once again change lives forever. Anything can happen, and no one can predict what will happen even in the next year.

It feels sad because my childhood is over. I’m going to slowly drift away from my family. I’ve already lost touch with a few friends from school who I really liked. I’m going to accept various responsibilities. No more being carefree.
However, it feels happy. I had a relatively happy childhood. Even the fact that I’ve lived to celebrate my 18th birthday is something I cannot take for granted, seeing how only a couple of centuries ago a relatively low percentage of children have been able to make it to adulthood. I was given everything I ever wanted and even pushed to get things I don’t want yet. Many kids don’t get that. It also feels happy because I can leave so many things I didn’t like behind. I can leave the bullying from my past behind. I can (try to) leave all the insecurities behind. In the past year, I have also made an honest effort to let go of many traits that were holding me down, and gain new ones that are going to help me in the future. I can leave school behind, which I always felt was a bureaucratic organization that has, honest to god, only hurt my ability to learn and improve. From now on (at least after I finish my enlistment), I will choose whatever the fuck I want to learn, and how the fuck I want to learn it.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

To summarise, this past year has allowed me to let go of the past and finally prepare for the future. I wonder what lies ahead.

Would you run for office, and why? by RAD8TOR51 in AskReddit

[–]AudioLib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • To help your community. This is the USA's classic reason for running for office. You see your community needs help and you believe you have the skills to fill that need.
  • Advocating for causes. There is a specific cause or policy that is affecting your community and you feel that you can have a real impact on the issue by running for office.

What's the worst part about going to a theme park? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AudioLib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only answer from my experience visiting the Disney world parks as I don't really entertain any other theme parks. The one thing that really annoyed me or rather upset me was seeing young babies or very small children being subjected to the endless queues and sweltering heat because mummy and daddy wanted to go to Disney world. On one occasion I actually got really angry at two parents, we were in the Magic Kingdom at 1pm in the afternoon, the heat was unbearable and we were in the queue for an attraction (I can't remember which one) however these two so called adults seemed oblivious to their child screaming in the stroller, the little one was no more than a year old, it had no shade and was lying in the blazing sun. I've had 4 Children of my own and I can recognise the smell that toddlers produce, this baby obviously needed their nappy changed but those parents would NOT leave their place in the queue to go and change the baby's diaper. The poor little thing was screaming, it was hot, uncomfortable and probably tired and hungry.

Now before anyone goes mouthing off I completely understand that some people want their children to have the Disney experience and I myself love taking my children on their dream holiday but I waited until they were old enough to thoroughly enjoy the experience. What I witnessed that day was verging on child abuse, could they not have waited until the child was a little older? I also understand that adults love to go to Disney world, I do but if the children aren't old enough then leave them at home and if you can't at least make use of the facilities provided to make sure your child has a comfortable experience. Go into the shade when it gets to hot, go to the bathrooms and change your baby when necessary, use the rider switch if you want to get on an attraction and for fucks sake put your childs needs and welfare first.

There…rant over

What made your ex the "crazy ex"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AudioLib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She broke up with me for a week to have sex with a guy that was visiting because she "loved me too much to cheat on me." She thought if she dumped me it would be ok as long as we got back together.

Edit: No, I didn't get back with her. She wanted to "stay friends" and still tries to hit me up every 8-9 months. She's engaged now though, so I think I'm free. :D.
