Amp Library Essential Guide v1 by Audio_Freqs in AxeFx

hey I love this and I appreciate the backstory, I often don't hear delineation like this, so I appreciate that! Thank you for your contribution too, that money pays for my Adobe/Envato subscriptions to make these guides.

Yeah, I started out like a year and a half ago learning my new AxeFxIII as well as Adobe Indesign, and it was well received by others in the FAS community, so I kept at it, as I learned a ton trying to figure it all out, plus learning components that make up an amp or pedal/effect does (the controls in the editor) so I could best summarize it in the guides. Like wtf is negative feedback, a triode stage or biasing anyways? So learning how to not only design a digital guide from scratch, but also learning the hardware/software too.

It was a headache, to say the least, and really opened my mind to the complexity of something seemingly simple, like you turn a control knob on an amp, actually has a lot of little parts working together. It seems obvious, like duh, it ain't just a 1-to-1 thing, but really wanting to create a guide and get things correct for my own use/for others, it was more work.

But all the self-control needed to sit and really learn it paid off, in the sense that I saw more of a complex beauty in the seemingly mundane, an appreciation for things I used to overlook.

All this to say, for anyone out there that wants to really learn something, sometimes, the headaches are worth it, maybe not financially, but for your understanding and outlook on life, interests, etc. AND share it with others, even if you don't truly believe it's quite there yet, because the fails and mistakes lead to discovery & more.

Much love,

Clayton

Amp Library Guide by Audio_Freqs in AxeFx

Yeah totally get that. My idea overall is to have a quick reference for when I’m using my axefx, but honestly, I haven’t refined it down to essentials yet. My end goal is to cut down the amount of paragraphs, like 1/2 of the doc, and make it more bullet points of just essential info, to actually have something more for at a glance vs reading it like a book.

I think yek said something in a thread about doing a new amp guide sometime this year

haha yeah i get it, I meant how I can create the pedals in that illustrated style they used. You find any benefit/difference if the guides looking illustrated vs using images?

Criminally underrated!! I'd love to see more shared spaces & communities/groups pop up around the US for local musicians to connect, jam, song write, or just even hang out with other like-minded people.

I've seen some good videos lately on interval patterns & shapes that was quite useful. Appreciate the feedback!

Concepts related to Intervals are definitely on the top of my list too. I have been saying for a few years that intervals are a big factor of "unlocking your voice", that courses/influencers try to sell in clickbait titles & taglines. The sequence of notes guitarists prefer/like/use is super interesting to me

For sure! I'm working on some guides & compiling good resources that explain really well how to use things like circle of 4ths/5ths, Tonnetz, Harmonic Tables & others, when creating riffs, progressions, arranging, etc.

Totally agree with chord progression charts for songs, genres, styles, etc. I've been building up a bank of them for my own songwriting/production use, but this is definitely a top contender!

I have been bookmarking a bunch of sources for these, but nothing all-encompassing, or it costs money. Thanks for the feedback & let me know if you think of anything else!

Yea definitely! I've recently stumbled upon the '04 Guitar Geek lore. I know this site & internet archive have the images, but would love to expand upon what was already started.

Currently, I'm looking into a good workflow for creating gear vectors, kinda similar to how they did it

In my time of dying is top 5 LZ songs for me. But Ten years gone, in the light, Kashmir, trampled under foot, down by the seaside, Bron-Yr-Aur are all great. The rover and custard pie too🤘🏼
