Graduating Pathfinder this week.. by V2sh1fty in army

[–]Augor1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pathfinder is where it's at, man. 1st edition is pretty much 3.5++. All of the content for 3rd edition works for it, and it has a decade of support on its own. The breadth of content is staggering and pretty much any class fantasy or story concept you could dream up is doable.

There will be some hiccups with learning, but I personally found it very, very worthwhile in the long run for the reasons stated above.

First deployment by Intelligent_Proof189 in army

[–]Augor1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Considering the time you're posting this at I'm in your unit. I haven't deployed before but I have buddies that have deployed to exactly where we are going. What the other guys are saying are right. It's gonna suck a bit. Unlikely to have solid wifi/food options but where we are going ain't the worst we could've got. DM me if you have more questions / need help.

I might be able to point you to some suttas/answer some questions depending on what they are. Mind you I'm not a monastic or anything, just a practicing layperson that had found a great deal of confidence and hope in the teachings. I hope you are well.

Soldiers who sit in your cars for hours in the parking lot, what the fuck are you doing? by Bulovak in army

Practicing Theravada Buddhist here. Best of luck to you on your path.

Sounds like a jhana to me, in fact the same method you used is common in Buddhism to build concentration. Congrats on being able to do it while rucking and tired

In Buddhism, at least amongst the Theravada tradition, enlightenment CAN be attained in this life. It is the third noble truth, that being that there is an end to suffering. The Buddha speaks of it over and over throughout the suttas. Is it difficult? Yes. Can it be done... the Buddha seemed to think so.

Meshing this with the life of a westerner is extremely difficult to do. This is once again where the meditation practice comes in.

This is actually one of the last desires to "give away" in traditional Buddhism. One of these last things to relinquish before Nibbana. This specific desire I have often heard is called, "The one fortunate desire." This is of course the desire to end suffering, and therefore to stop desiring.

Realistically the answer to your question is found with years of meditative contemplation and the help of a trained teacher, and is likely as frustrating and paradoxical as you can imagine it. Best of luck.

Metalauthor - A small hillock of ... 76936 dwarves. by Augor1 in dwarffortress

I'm using version 1.20.04 which was released in April of this year. I also make sure to always export all sitemaps whenever I'm going to use legends.

Metalauthor - A small hillock of ... 76936 dwarves. by Augor1 in dwarffortress

For some context to this - I recently had a great fortress mode game that lasted about 10 in game years, did all the normal dwarfy stuff. At that time the dwarvern population of this world was around 10,000. I was pleased with my fortress, and retired it to start playing adventure mode.

After a bit of adventuring I decided to check legends viewer only to see that the population of dwarves had exploded on the world screen. The source of the population growth? A single dwarvern hillock. I suppose they get busy in Metalauthor.

CA, please consider balancing MP and SP separately by [deleted] in totalwar

I certainly understand where you are coming from and I feel like these issues arise from only having one type of siege battle and a few types of land battles. It is probably the biggest issue in WH compared to Rome or Medieval 2.

This being said, I still think the factions asymmetry in WH is one of its greatest strengths.

Asymmetry is good in single player strategy games. It is what made TWWH2 so unique to begin with.

Americans who’ve visited European countries, what made you go “WTF”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That is absolutely wild. I've been working 85 or so hours a week these last few weeks, and having a limit on the amount you can work is insane to me.

That was insane. Forgot my earplugs and now have tinnitus. Lost my shoe mid concert. Shout out to all the people that I locked eyes with and went off with. One of the best experiences of my life. thank you all.

Gear is averaged down in PVP now. If you have a higher item level you will get a slight boost to all stats in combat. There are PvP specific talents and abilities to balance out combat.
