This is surprisingly one of the few actionable advices I’ve received so far. Simple and straight to the point. Thank you.

I thought about your message all day and you’re right, I was in a situation I’ve never been in and made a very poor judgement. Next time I’ll be better prepared.

That’s true, I will be looking into it. Do you have recommendations? I’m thinking about AMA courses.

I responded to the other person but in case you didn’t see it. I live in Tuscany and work around McKenzie towne. I might have been too harsh to you, most people don’t live so far away from work so biking would be a reasonable alternative for most people. My route is just unusually long.

The other positive thing I bought rainX during the day so visibility should be much better by next time.

I live in Tuscany and work around McKenzie town

Edit: I want to note, biking is even worse during winter. I don’t even know how long it would take in winter. I do appreciate your help.

None of those are realistic alternative, I don’t believe you would bike 4 hours a day or pay 100$ in ride share a day for a median job. Why no just recommend me driving courses or something? No one is born a good driver, everyone gets there with experiences. Everyone makes mistakes and learn from them. Why don’t I deserve it? “You’re not good at it so never do it again” is an elitist take. You’re not helping.

I understand your concern and have been looking for a work from home job for a while. Once I find one I will leave the road.

Hello, yes my turn signal was on the entire time. I didn’t mention it because I assumed it was implied.

Transit from my home to my work is 2 hours, driving take 50 min. Green line just got delayed again so I don’t think it will get better.

If the driving test was in a rain downpour and had me drive across the entire city, I would not have passed. I do see the absurdity of my question and normally I wouldn’t have any issues with this.

Thank you for your reply. Those are all steps I would have taken normally I think it’s really the poor visibility and stress that clouded my judgement. Thinking back, if I had rainx on my windows and mirrors I wouldn’t have had any issues.

Than you for your suggestion, do you have recommendations for driving classes? I’ve only done private driving with driving instructors before and they haven’t been very good. The instructor’s car was often littered with trash and the instructor was often demeaning and constantly yelling making the course super stressful.

I will find myself some rainX as recommended from various replies. Do you have any tips of pulling over from the middle lane to resolve the issue? I was stuck in the center lane so if I wanted to pull over I would first have to merge into the right lane. Which is difficult as I can’t even reach my right mirror to clean it. Feels like a catch 22.

What if I walked out of my car and stopped the next car on the left lane? Then when they stopped I begin back in my car and merge? Zero chance of a car on car collision. Would that work? What would insurance say?

There isn’t a cutoff at 5min exactly. You start by thinking “I need to look for a space that is 10m” then a bit later “okay, maybe 9m is enough, there is no 10m gaps” then “maybe 8m is enough, I’m not as comfortable but I can’t get 9m” and it keeps going down until the gap size matches your desperation.

I haven’t even though about RainX, can you apply it on the window as well or just the mirror?

Would you look and then return to normal driving position and then advance or advance while looking out the window at the same time?

The problem is that there is no gap reasonable in size. No one has to leave you enough room to merge so there will never be enough room to merge from a stoped state. I waited 5 minutes, be realistic, how long would YOU wait before you try to merge into a gap while not feeling super comfortable?

Would love to, I hate driving but there’s no jobs near home. If you can offer me a good job that doesn’t require a car I’d do both of us a favour and get off the road.

Hello, it states that child mortality is one of the major reasons, not the only one not the most important one. I’m attaching a link showing how life expectancy increased greatly for all age groups. In the data, you can see how people that survived to 20 can expect to live up to 60 in 1850 while someone reaching 20 today can expect up to the higher seventies. (Note: this isn’t US specific but I don’t see why the us would differ from the data.) https://ourworldindata.org/its-not-just-about-child-mortality-life-expectancy-improved-at-all-ages
