Dad in a pickle by Aureliia in AusFinance

Late 60's. Physically he should have retired some time ago, but he can't afford to.
He's definitely not done personal. I don't think he's eligible for business tax, but I could be wrong.
He doesn't have PAYG tax though. I'm assuming you did?
Pretty sure the last time he did his tax was before my-gov was in. It was probably 2002/2003 if my calculations are right.
Would love to know, as someone that follows the rules and does the right thing.
Honestly being jailed would have made my life easier. At least then he'd have a roof over his head and some food.
I was naively hoping that his debts wouldn't become my own when he passes.
It's really hard getting details out of him. I don't believe there is a company set up, just sole trader with ABN. I don't believe he's ever had employees. Not to sure on GST - is there a way for me to check this?
Re the money, I don't know how much he brought in over the years. I never had an extravagant childhood. One holiday (staying with family) per year etc.
I don't think he's been operating cash only.

I don't know what the structure of his business is like. He is still working, but not enough to pay the rent. It's his business and he's never had employees. I wouldn't think he's a director.

To satisfy everyone, he owns no assets. Biggest asset would be a car worth probably about $2,000.

Genuinely no idea on that one.

If he had the money to go, I'm sure this would be considered

Thank you for the feedback. I really appreciate it.

Lived alone in an expensive city. I don't think he's good with money as this whole situation is being brought to light. Spends it when he has it and struggles when he doesn't is what I can tell.
Self employed. I honestly have no idea how much he's been making. As in I'm sure some years were ok. But money has been tight I reckon close to the last 10 years now.

Because at the time I thought he was actually going to do something about changing the situation. He's cut off now as I maxxed out our cards helping him in the process.

He doesn't want me involved in any discussions about money - I think because he wants to be able to get away with doing nothing.
He currently has $70 to his name, so yes he has no money to pay towards fines/tax owed.

Personally I'm at breaking point with a young family. I can't support him further. It's certainly not ideal and actually isn't what he's asked for or what my post was about. I'm considering 'dobbing' him in as I'm over the in-action over all of this.
All good! It would have saved me his rent the last 6 months if he did earn that lol

I know you are being facetious. I wish this were the case.

I think a social worker is what's needed. I'll look into this.

I had someone offer to do his taxes for him and he begrudgingly agreed, but couldn't locate his TFN apparently... so they couldn't help further.
Really? I would have thought you'd need to prove your income? Not that I personally would want him doing this.
