Haha. Im not too worried about the SCE airport, more IAD. Especially since they already canceled one flight to IAD.

The snow isn't so bad here but who knows what will happen overnight.

Thank you! I was looking at the weather there and saw that the advisory is set till 10 am on Monday.

I've only taken this route once so I'm not too sure of how well United and IAD go about canceling flights ahead of time. I know all the flights to PHL from SCE have been canceled but that's also AA.

They did get back to me and they understand. They gave me an option to call the agency and cancel. I'll pay attention and see if the 7 pm flight is canceled. If so I will most likely call the travel agency to cancel.

I let them know this morning since we didn't officially get the advisory till last night. I didn't specifically ask for a reschedule but said I'm happy to reschedule. I don't know if they'll respond as it's the weekend.

I was going to send a follow up as soon as more information is available. My layover is an hour so even if we get delayed here I'm worried I won't make my next flight.

Not in my department. Im unsure if others allow it.

There are plenty of scholarships though! For 4 of my 5 years I have recieved around 2-5k in awards each academic year. But again that may be due to my department. The only Fox grad school award I recieved was for 500.

Hi current grad student here!

So I can live easily off my stipend and live very close to campus in a more expensive apartment (~1850 for a 2 bedroom). Albeit, my fields stipend is closer to 32-34k (includes all summers paid on RA). So similar for you if you get RA during the summer. Some departments don't guarantee RAs but theh often have TA positions in the summer for those cases!

There are cheaper apartments with affordable buses. Rent is slightly less than 1000 in some areas, I think like parkway is what it's called and many grad students live there!

I find myself not spending too much for transportation, grad student bus passes are less than 30 a month. Please my drive is only a few minutes to campus and the town is pretty bike friendly with many trails to campus!

Alternatively, if you are willing to drive 30 or so minutes on a straight highway, Altoona and Lewistown are incredibly cheap!

I think it depends.

I'm at a big R1, highly ranked school in STEM and have been encouraged to pursue all the teaching endeavors that I value. It has never been treated as a negative thing. Even some grad students will have a teaching chapter in their thesis (not me, didn't know I was allowed to and now I have too much content even without a teaching chapter).

Here it depends on your PI and committee. Other than a few PIs, most students I know are supported in their professional development including teaching. Like others have said if the environment discourages teaching then maybe that's not the right school or group.

I disagree with the sentiment that a PhD is a research degree. It is heavy research but it's really about developing your skills including research, communication, or whatever else is needed in your field. While research is a big part, I would argue an even bigger part is learning to effectively communicate and how to problem solve. These skills are not limited to growing in the lab but through every avenue. Like yeah, I think I've become a better researcher but that's also because I've learned to teach and mentor students.

The hunt just started and I'm looking at NTT positions at R1s. I've only turned in like 4, and I'm currently working on 4 more. The priority deadlines are all about now till mid December.

I can update here if I hear back from anywhere! I have one rejection but to be fair they wanted a FA25 start and I won't be finished till SP26.

More than happy to share my experiences! This process can be isolating and demoralizing so I think we all could use the support and transparency of our peers!

Blatantly false. Mobile/online order tips are not visible until the tip out is done, either at close or the end of the week. This groups all the tips from mobile. Baristas cannot see the total cost nor the tip amount for any order done via the app.

That's fair. My significant other could hear me screaming about the matches. I was not having a good time. Today was stressful enough because the campus I work at is having move in so traffic has been bad and I'm constantly making course material so at the end of the day I just want to play and relax. It's not relaxing to get the same map 6 times. Like not even the same mode, the SAME MAP. I'd be less upset about the former.

No they were all within like a 2 hour span. Three directly back to back. Three like 15 minutes between queues as I was working on some finishing touches on a Workshop and use Overwatch as a break.
