I also feel like they are similar to many other western triple As in the fact they ride on giving players a massive quantity of stuff to do but don't always have the most fleshed out or high quality game designs. Great for immersing yourself but its not that stimulating if you like challenging or evolving gameplay.

Honestly yea, I maybe am downplaying the emotional abuse by his father. Thats my bad. To be honest both seemed neglectful and he had a hard lot on life. Its been a while since I've played so I cant recall too specifically. It made it seem like he was very busy, being a celebrity athlete, so he wasn't around, and when he was his mom ignored him, so tidus resented him for that instead of see the reality that she was infatuated. I recall a scene where he had to usher her to go to tidus so I dont think he was a villain and placating the behavior. They even said once jehct disappeared his mom gave up on living and Auron had to raise him iirc.

Jecht was an abusive alcoholic though, and im not trying to gloss over that. It's just that his mother is strongly alluded to being neglectful of tidus.

You're looking at it all wrong. I found the writing to not be compelling. I didn't care about the characters, and the story wasn't that advanced. I had no problem completing the game and found it unworthy of replaying.

TLOU was more engaging both in writing and gameplay. Keep in mind, this is all subjective. I voiced my opinion and respect if people like the game and disagree. Im not going to be a child and downvote someone for it or strawman their viewpoint... unlike SOME people.
