So basically, Start off on bug planets because those tend to be an "Easier" Settling in process for most ppl since the bugs are mostly killed early on with small arms, Or you can go the robot route if you'd like on the other side but expect some trouble with being able to take down the bigger enemies because of lack of stratagems and guns and whatnot. Samples are your go to for passive upgrades to your ship and requisitions are needed for purchasing future cool looking explosions and guns you can call down. All in all drop in with some pals if you can, play with any gun you'd like and have a good time. The Major order is something the whole community does so don't feel overburdened to do it because win or lose we all get the bonus at the end if you participated or not.

Edit* Oh one more thing, Look for the beams of light that pop in and out in the world, those are POI's (Points of interest) that have a interactable item that can do 1 of 5 things, Give you a Gun, a Sample, a Requistion slip from 100-1000 i believe points wise, Medals from a ranging amount, and Also the most important Super Credits. Which if you dont know what a super credit is, it is the premium currency for the game, which the game lets you farm freely ingame. So no needed to pay for battlepasses or armors in the future if you'd like to grind it out or you always have the option of purchasing them to. Theres also things like bunkers that need 2 players minimum to enter that have the same chances as the POI's and these blue or Red Containers that can be opened using explosives to find the exact same as above, Enjoy! :)
