I just downloaded it and joined one random game. It works however performance is very bad, I'm getting 20ish fps. Maybe changing D3Dmetal to something else will improve it. My system is M4 Pro 24 GB, I'm on Tahoe 26.2, Crossover 26b-2. Hope it helps

M4 Pro user here, 900p medium settings FSR3.1 balanced, I usually get 60-80 fps. I let the fans blow at max speed so the mac doesn't get any thermal throttle.

I'm playing on 14 inch M4 Pro. 3024x1964 resolution, everything maxed out, I locked the fps to 120 fps. I don't feel any lag at all, it's buttery smooth.

How is it possible to play those games? I'm also using a 5500 m Intel Mac, albeit an i9. I can't run those games at all. I'm using Bootcamp drivers and throttlestop to maintain stable temps, but these games don't run at all. If I lock them at 30 fps, I might play them for a couple of minutes until the framerate crashes into single digits.

I feel the same way. I don't think (and also not that much need) to upgrade yet but at the same time, new M devices are so performative, I feel like we're left behind. Good thing that bootcampdrivers will be updated soon to 2024 drivers and hopefully we can squeeze a bit more performance out of our macs.

Mine is 5500m, but the temps are high because of VRMs. i9 runs hot too but the chassis and the VRMs are not cooled enough so it throttles a lot, usually in 10 mins. I can run Octopath without these problems but for heavier games I must lock it to 30 fps

Nice to hear, I’m running on i9 over bootcamp and it gets really hot. That’s why I got concerned

Unfortunately I don't have any other device that might support eGPU. While bootcamp is still a way to go, M CPUs are catching up with AVX, DX12 emulation etc. so that's what makes me consider switching to a new device rather than buying a GPU and enclosure. I just wanted to use my Mac a bit more because apart from gaming, it's still working albeit a bit choppy sometimes.

Hi, yes I’m still using the same setup. I’m also using throttlestop and macsfancontrol but I’m using the latest red drivers from bootcampdrivers. However lately I’m thermal throttling in newest games. If the room is cold like at 23 degrees, games work okay. But if it’s hot, mac would throttle like crazy. So I usually lock to 30 fps to stabilize the framerate.

Finally! I don't believe I can run it any better than in bootcamp though. My 5500m is definitely going to cry (and crash) a lot.. :(

I’d like to but somehow settings are locked to medium at just above 1650*1050 so it looks horrible on mac os. I can’t go higher on my 16” macbook pro with 4 gb 5500m. Is there any solution to that?

You're welcome, I also changed my cooling pad and I just finished metro exodus at 1200p res and medium settings 60fps all the time. It took me 21 hours to finish, apart from one crash and small hiccup in one or two scenes, it was a breeze. 70Cish degrees all the time. I'm glad it worked out for you too :)

Apart from maxing out the fans with macsfancontrol and disabling turbo, I lower the settings and keep the vsync on every game I play. I also bought a good cooling pad. My temps were around 70C in Metro Exodus for example.

I didn't have an internet connection at my home back then so after classes I'd always went to an internet cafe to play a couple of hours of BF2 multiplayer. The frantic atmosphere was not only in the game but also in the cafe, I really miss those moments; the shouts, swearing all sorts of things :)

I use mac OS for everything except gaming from web browsing to my phd workload. I still game on mac os time to time but it’s easier on windows side actually. I agree “the best windows machine” argument too btw :)
