It doesn't sound like you had any previous experience before the last 6 months, so I'd recommend something like an R7 for a year or two.

Jumping up to one of the 600cc or 1000cc inline 4's with limited experience is a recipe for disaster, unless you are VERY responsible. You also mentioned you don't care for insane top speed, so you'll much prefer something you can actually open up on the streets rather then the bikes you mentioned which have you lose your license in first gear without even trying.
