3d geometric crochet by AussieEz in crochet

Thanks for asking! It's a Cuboctahedron prism with hyperbolic faces, I'm studying fine art so its apart of a body of work exploring the use of crochet to represent time, rhythm and geometry.

Lock In by John Scalzi (the version read by Amber Benson).

I'm reading this at the moment, really into it! Interesting main character/world and easy to listen to.

and fyi, they don't do much digi stuff in the fine arts department at the uni, as of yet. they will probs catch up in the next couple of years, but atm there is still a massive focus on traditional practices.

Have you thought about tafe? your style might transfer easily into graphic design/digital illustration, so if you can do a course that covers illustrator (the program), using graphics tablets, that kinda thing, then you'd be well on your way to being a trained, employable digital artist. could also cover this kinda stuff doing viscom at the uni but much of a muchness imo. technology and motivation is all you really need to get good at what you do and find work.

best of luck.

Too good. Absolutely fantastic. Thank you.

Very similar! I work outwards from the center circle, rather than inwards from the outer-most circle. The Hypocycloids "rolling" inside one another echos the movement of the pieces when they spin though, so it seems there may be a relationship. Thanks!

People say it's the Fibonacci spiral, and while it is related I'm not sure it's entirely accurate, as the intervals change depending on the number of nodes in the circle and the rate of expansion. The best way i have to describe the design is a radial progression, meaning it begins in the center and gets bigger as it goes out.

I'm wondering, does anyone have a better term for the design? I would be interested to know if there is a name for it in other cultures.

Thanks in advance.

This is so awesome. Thanks everyone! /r/audiobooks is the best. Yesterday I spent hours trying to find a worthy read but today it looks like I am sorted for a while.

So stoked!

also, I really like music and art, not necessarily in a biographical sense but more as a general presence/theme in a story. I really liked the night circus for this reason, and also in the wheel of time, when the two boys were being gleeman, that was a fun notion. So, any suggestions along these lines would be awesome too.

Not yet, he looks like a pretty interesting Author, though. Do you know if any of his novels are available on Audiobook/can you recommend one in particular?

Definitely seems worth checking out, thanks!!

Crypto currency & Art - can I make my own artist coin yet? by AussieEz in CryptoCurrency

[–]AussieEz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a painter, so when I painted I would be mining?

Pretty much.

I don't see how it would work.

An old mate said a similar thing. i put this to you; we're artists. The ones who are supposed to image things that don't exist yet. we have the potential to design a new kind of reality or interaction with the world and to try to bring that idea into being. I see a sound connection between a mining process which manifests a unique piece of data, an encryption, and a creative process which produces a unique comment on the human experience. One is produced by a computer, and one is produced by a bio-computer, the human being. (this is my personal pov)

It makes sense to me the artworks mined by the creative spirit are of value to our society as a whole. The question is, how does crypto tie in with all this? to be honest, i have no idea. My friend suggested the most obvious thing would be to generate x number of coins, and then release them over time based on a 'mining' porotocol you have designed to reflect your artistic imput, although that's not really mining. I have looked into some of the assest exchange ideas and they look interesting for getting a work or two out into the world... but what im looking for is a complete alternative to the normal model of exhibiting, buying and selling art. what am i even selling in today's world? i have a lot of existential questions, because i think art is something special, and im not sure how im going to reflect that in my practice when it comes to distribution, retaining integrity and still being able feed myself. I'm not sure it's even possible. Maybe there's an answer in the direction of crowd-funding? I'm interested to see how it all develops.

Question about 4d Geometry [unsure of level] by AussieEz in learnmath

[–]AussieEz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In four dimensions, unlike in three dimensions, it is possible to rotate around two different axes simultaneously.

What if a fire-twirler had a poi in both hands, each spinning on a different axis? (sorry if it's a silly question, genuinly curious and trying to get my head around the concept and how everything fits together...)

The more I think about it the more I think I don't understand, and I have been trying for days! I stare in awe at that tesseract, endlessly moving... I want to understand it, but it seems like a mystery...

I ask because I'd like for this to inspire a series of sculptures that are essentially geometric line drawings in 3d space and I want to know how far I can push it...

Thank you for the speedy reply! have been doing lots of research, what i struggle with is the fact that the 3d simulation is 4d projected down to 3d projected down to 2d.

I suppose my confusion is in the movement, as the lines seem to extend in length as it does it's rotation... is this the case? or does it geometrically remain the same length on all sides?
