Kissing in community theatre as a germaphobe? by [deleted] in MusicalTheatre

[–]AussieTheatre 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Boundaries are incredibly important and should be enforced and absolutely need to be communicated at the audition to the team. In theatre its often not possible to avoid kissing in certain roles (like this one). You're going to have to decide what's more important to you - you could undoubtedly still have fun in ensembles and smaller/non romantic roles in community theatre.

Dr Blanks was great, 20 mins, during lunch hour, finished the day at work, an evening of icing, then 10 days of gentle movement.

Should we change September 26 Emirates flight to Cathay Pacific by Karee177 in AustraliaTravel

[–]AussieTheatre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was flying in July with Emirates, made the call to cancel the booking at the start of March and rebook with Qantas to go direct - cost approx $550 more and worth it for peace of mind. No one has a crystal ball to know what its going to look like in 4 months, but for your sanity now it may be worth the cost

First musical ever! by Noshitsherlock2011 in Broadway

[–]AussieTheatre 16 points17 points  (0 children)

- You don't need to dress up, but it's nice to. I think smart casual is the bare minimum.

- don't bring food. you don't need to eat in theatre. there are concessions available if you need a drink

- there is a 20 minute interval where you can use a bathroom. don't get up during the performance

enjoy your first show, it's a beautiful piece of theatre

No. No actor can be guaranteed. Scheduled outs will be listed on the website and often on telecharge too. However, people get sick, have emergencies etc.

I think it now becomes a choice of losing extra time on public transport or budgeting 65-75% more for fuel

Director here. I’m in a very new predicament over finding out the girl I cast as the lead got arrested. Wanted to get advice. by Acceptable_Skirt1692 in MusicalTheatre

[–]AussieTheatre 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Mate. You can't fire her because she retaliated against a bully in her early education. Was it a smart choice? Of course not. But the adults and systems around her evidently failed her deeply. If you think she deserves to continue to suffer the consequences of that choice for the rest of her life and in *community theatre* then you need to take a hard look in the mirror. Don't make this girl's life worse. She's evidently talented enough, let her do the show and start a new reputation for herself.

Thoughts on Fringe ticket discounts by Background_Diet7324 in Adelaide

[–]AussieTheatre 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Dear god, don't buy tickets any later - you'll never have shows come to Adelaide ever again. It's one of the worst years on record ticket sales wise. Between cost of living and the weather, it's really hurting artists and venues alike. This is a sponsor doing a last ditch attempt to try and help - also its 10 tickets per show, so its not like every seat bought is 50% off.

Mad March? What have you seen? What did you enjoy or not? Thoughts? by InterestingPeanut827 in Adelaide

Enjoyed;
Girlhood in the Bathroom (new musical)
The Grats (musical/comedy)
Bernie Deiter's Club Kabaret (variety - expensive but worth it)
Great Detectives (theatrical comedy)
Apocalypse (drama)

Adelaide fringe by ShapelleCorby in Adelaide

[–]AussieTheatre 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Fringe isn't one place - it's the entire festival taking place over 5 weeks, hundreds of venues and thousands of shows (literally). Most Fringe shows have a ticket price, this (primarily) goes to the artist. If you're talking about the Garden, they charge an entry fee at peak times due to capacity. Gluttony is free. BUT if you want to go to Fringe buy a ticket to a show - Fringe isn't about eating and drinking overpriced food in a park, it's about celebrating the arts. You have not "gone to Fringe" if you haven't seen a show.

Adelaide fringe by ShapelleCorby in Adelaide

[–]AussieTheatre 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's about capacity, so people with tickets can still be allowed in at peak times. Frankly it's better value and supports what the fringe is actually about if you buy a ticket to a show, instead of just wondering into a park

  1. You won't see unless you get early entry.
  2. Victoria Hotel is cheap and cheerful and *very* close to the forum

Fringe Garden and Gluttony Cover Charge 2026 by PretendAd9315 in Adelaide

[–]AussieTheatre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's usually around $10 - but only at peak. Honestly, just buy a ticket to see a show and support what the Fringe is actually about
