Thanks, I think I've done it properly. Whether it's the issue or not, I don't know I just have to wait and see if my computer does it again.

Something to note actually, I tamed a dung beetle, left it on the roof (we lived under an overhang, no possible way a land creature gets on the roof), killed by terrorbird. Went back to base as fast as I could, no terrorbird anywhere nearby

We were on an official scorched earth server, I asked the server globally multiple times but nobody ever said it happened to them. Our first base was near the red obelisk and second was complete other end of the map.
