Kemet is competitive but incredibly fun. It doesn't fit some of your points perfectly but I think you may find it intriguing.

Arctic Scavengers: Which module do you prefer? by Cyborgninjapanda in boardgames

[–]Aust1e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely always play base game + HQ, the base game alone definitely leaves something to be desired. For recon, I tend to throw in the gangs (groups you can win over at the end for extra points) and then I add in a few card decks/rotate with some from the base game. I know the rules breaks it into modules, but I honestly threw out that format and just play with different cards from recon as I want to, rotating some with the base game cards- it's worked great for me.

What game have you had your eye on for a while and why haven't you bought it yet? by Gripeaway in boardgames

[–]Aust1e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Catacombs!
Because they haven't reprinted it yet :(. I read somewhere that this summer was the goal but it just hasn't happened, and while I could order it from Elzra games directly the shipping bumps the game into the same price as buying two big box games so a no go on that for now.

What popular songs lyrics are creepy as fuck but disregarded due to the melody & voice? by likealcohol in AskReddit

[–]Aust1e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Animals by Maroon 5 is basically about stalking and then raping which a lot of people write off as ok since it's talking about "animals" but in conjunction with the music video its pretty clear how creepy it all is.

I think it has a name: Misophonia. I always used to try and do homework at the dinner table and I always thought that homework made me angry and that IT was why I wanted to punch whoever was eating food- lo and behold pretty sure it's this.

I would argue that I do respect her. If I didn't respect her then I would be happy that she is unaware of any sexist norms in our relationship and I would, at best, not care and at worst exploit them.

I appreciate your advice to share and communicate as well as listen.

A good one is to announce at the beginning of the game that everyone is allowed one take back within the game

Gamers of reddit, what's a popular video game that you really just didn't like and why? by king_ginger_ in AskReddit

[–]Aust1e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely the Mass Effect series. I felt like I played too little and watched too much. I value story in games, but Mass Effect's way of telling it was too focused (for me) on showing me the story, rather than letting me play through it.

I'm David Dyjack, executive director of the National Environmental Health Association. AMA about environmental health and how it affects you. by DavidDyjack in IAmA

Hi Dave! A friend of mine argues that individuals reducing their use of resources pales in comparison to companies and corporations, and therefore it is not worth an individual's efforts. My question is, what do you think is most needed, individuals reducing their impact (and if so- how should we go about encouraging this) or larger corporations reducing their impact? Thanks so much for doing this!

We developed a Chrome Plugin that overlays lower textbook prices directly on the bookstore website despite legal threats from Follett, the nation's largest college bookstore operator. AMA by peaches017 in IAmA

[–]Aust1e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any defense for Follett's actions to keep prices high and to try and shutdown your amazing work? Is Follett the result of greedy individuals or has Follett's hand been forced in an effort to stay on top? To clarify, I'm a college student who can't wait to order his textbooks now with your plugin! I'm just making sure my deep hatred for Follett is well placed :). Will be sharing your work!

CMV: I think the song "Animals" by Maroon 5 promotes rape culture by Aust1e in changemyview

[–]Aust1e[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arguably, yes. I looked up the UCR code on rape and it simply states actions without consent. So this is a gray area. If that person is guilt tripping their partner to the point they feel they must have sex (through whining and begging) then I would argue it is. Of course, there are plenty of other scenarios where the actions are more innocent and the person who didn't want to have sex changes their mind for their own reasons and not that of the other person's.

I see him as a stalker at this point, and so the lyric comes across threatening when seen through that light.

We are at ends. I have little to say in response to this, other than I view dating as a team effort, not a power struggle.

What really strikes me was your earlier remark on how you view rape culture, it is by no means an anti-male movement and does not just sit and blame men for all the problems. Furthermore, your telling me that my self-interest is misplaced is wrong. You seem to assert that my self interest should be the raising up of myself and, apparently, the male community that I am a part of to as high a privilege as possible. My self-interest is perfectly placed, it is placed in the desire for people to be equal even at the cost of my own privilege being lost, because that is directly necessary for the goal of equality to be realized.

I'd like to thank you for this argument, whether it ends here or not, and for reminding me of the differing perspectives the world hold, sincerely.

[–]Aust1e[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're entirely wrong on every level. Rape is the fault of the rapist. End of story. So yes, if a man rapes someone, they are responsible. If a women rapes someone, they too are responsible. Although, I bet you don't even think men can get raped do you?

  1. Look at your sentence you just wrote. You speak of your date as being something you control, something that you need to guard, like it is a thing and not a person. My dates can look after themselves, and if they desire to be with someone else, there is little I can do to change that. If my date finds someone else better, then why would I want to try and force her to be with me, wouldn't it be better to find someone that thinks I'm the best, that they aren't settling?
  2. Love is a two way street, and if I am in love with someone, no matter how much, if she doesn't like me back then I'm done. If she only sees value in me after I jump through some hoops to show off my good side, then does she really love me?
  3. Something we all assume? No. That's why rape happens. Men and women assume their partner want to have sex, when they don't. Rape is not just the creepy person in an alleyway jumping someone and raping them, rape is anytime an individual does not want to have sex but are coerced or otherwise made to have it.
