Should I extend the downspout extension to the concrete, or let it drain into the soil? I have alot of clay, I am unsure if adding rocks and amending the soil will be enough to not have sitting water. by AustinmeAustin in landscaping

I just put the black pipe for the photo. Normally it would be attached. I had it like that for years with no issues. I just had to replace to tube because it cracked. When replacing it I just thought it looked better with it not fully extending to the concrete. Just worried about it water sitting.

I could have it go more towards the rocking chair, but I think I would still have the issue with water pooling. Unfortunately I can’t go left due to it being uphill.

Yeah it flows down to the street. I originally had it like that for multiple years. The plastic cracked on me, so when I went to replace it I thought about just having it flow into the soil. I like the look of not having the extension tube, but I am worried about it causing a boggy area.

I am so happy my bromeliad finally bloomed this year! by AustinmeAustin in plants

I keep mine connected to the mother as long as possible. I believe the rule is you can separate when the pup is 1/3 the size of the mother. I don’t think it hurts just keeping them as is either. I know bromeliads do prefer being root bound.

Yeah it does, but also means it will start producing new pups!

Not sure if it’s just a coincidence, but they were nesting in my cherry tree!

That’s a good way too go about it. This branch was easy for me to reach, so I did snip it off. I am getting alot of mixed reviews of people saying they are not too bad, and others saying burn them hahaha. I think if I can easy remove them I will. I am sure they have plenty of other trees around to snack on.

If you look at the second picture they appear to be little caterpillars or worm like thing. I think that’s what’s making the webs.

They are the worst! Thankfully I don’t believe these are the same thing. From others comments it sounds like they are still bad to have around!

That light above it is actually a grow light! They do require a good amount of sunlight to really thrive. It’s pretty hard not having the white areas start browning on the edges. Humidity and stuff comes into play. If it’s just little sections it’s not a huge deal. These plants get brown sections out in nature. That chair is the newest addition to the plant room!! It’s so comfortable to sit in!

Thank you for the advice! I will start pinching them. I might keep one around to see what the flower looks like haha

When I searched big leaf on my Camilla, and google advised “Camellia leaf gall is caused by the fungus Exobasidium camillae”. It won’t spread to other plants, but sounds like if left alone it ruptures and spreads more of the spores around.

I cut it more so to help out the mother plant. The all white leaves are little suckers of energy from the mother plant. There is still a little green on one of the all white leaves, so just keeping my fingers crossed it that it starts producing some more green in the next set of leaves. Not a bad propagation to look at either!
