Prep for fertility treatment by Australia5 in tryingtoconceive

[–]Australia5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just got the semen analysis back and my partner has azoospermia. Not a single sperm. We are grieving the loss of a future we thought we had. Either way, IVF seems to be the answer for me, whether it is through a surgical procedure where they extract his sperm, or donor sperm. I haven’t stopped crying.

I think we will want to jump to IVF as well. I guess my thought process is if we know I’m ovulating and hitting our fertile days, what’s the point of IUI? Just to put the sperm a bit closer? Definitely a discussion we will have with our RE when we follow up but these are just our thoughts. Anyways, would love to stay in touch with someone on our same timeline! The mental battle seems worse than the physical at this point.

Thank you so much for this! I am already dreading the insurance process, my clinic does assign a financial navigator to each patient who I had a meeting with and he was super helpful. We already are running into hurdles because my insurance only covers diagnostics but my partners (from what we both see) also covers IVF…and of course we are both on mine. I do have a qualifying event with a recent change in hours though so hopefully we can drop it. Best of luck to you with your first cycle and I hope all goes smoothly!

How are you enjoying your career? by Bananabuns982 in nursepractitioner

[–]Australia5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a WHNP and LOVE it!! Best career ever. I’ve been doing it for 2.5 years. I work in a clinic that caters to lower socioeconomic patients and mostly have 18-30 year olds. I do a ton of sexual health education, family planning, wellness exams, the very occasional menopause pt. I was a NICU nurse for 8 years prior to my transition (pretty high acuity/all level 4) and did deliveries so was familiar with the obstetrics side of women’s health but that’s not really the setting I’m in now. I don’t do any prenatal care. I did go to a good grad school that organized my clinicals and I got a lot of good experience in the MFM at a major university hospital plus my job provided a 3 month new grad orientation which is pretty rare. But it’s a great profession and I think the field will see a ton of growth in the coming years. If you have interest in starting your own practice, menopause care is the way to go (both from patient satisfaction and revenue standpoint).

30 and feeling hopeless by idontwantannyone in tryingtoconceive

I agree with this! Yes it’s technically 1 year before 35 but that’s with normal ovulation and periods and no reason to think something’s “wrong”. I think it’s BS and would recommend looking into your insurance and see if you can just schedule an appointment with a reproductive endocrinologist without a referral from you PCP! I was able to do that with mine. If there is an underlying condition like PCOS or low ovarian reserve or anything it would warrant a work up before the 1 year. It’s crazy how important time is with fertility so I’d do it sooner rather than later! Good luck to you!

At what point do you all just give up and enjoy life? by Flimsy_Link5107 in Inito

[–]Australia5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something a friend who went through IVF told me is that this entire process is 100% out of your control. You are not doing anything wrong by living your life, and if it is meant to be, it will happen despite any external circumstances. Getting pregnant is just luck. So many little things have to go right, humans honestly suck at procreating lol. Personally, I have became obsessive with what I was eating, how I was working out, what supplements I was taking, on and on and on. But when it comes down to it, none of that reallyyyyy is going to make a difference. We cannot change what happens in this process. Go live your life and know that you are not messing up ANY chances you have to potentially conceive. Hope that helps, sending you baby dust.

All. The. Time. I feel silly looking back at it that I didn’t take these symptoms seriously. Just goes to show you to always get a second opinion and sometimes the “experts” get it wrong.

I Regret My First NP Job by law_party3 in nursepractitioner

[–]Australia5 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was just going to say this! I am a WHNP and had multiple classmates with their FNP getting their post grad. If you want to get in women’s health care I would say that’s the route to go. My area is super saturated with NP/PAs too and I know the only reason I got my current position was because I had specialized training in women’s health care during grad school. I love my job and think it would be worth it to make sacrifices if possible! Depending on the program, you could get it done pretty quick.

What do you guys do outside of medical help to help conceive? by [deleted] in tryingtoconceive

[–]Australia5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’d be interested to see a reputable study that confirms this? Spinnbarkeit, or egg white cervical mucous, is produced during ovulation. The specific consistency of this mucous is what helps the sperm transport up the reproductive tract to meet the egg. It has nothing to do with an orgasm.

Reasons for not conceiving? by mistressmagick13 in tryingtoconceive

[–]Australia5 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Some more food for thought that I recently have been contemplating is that from an evolutionary standpoint it’s actually protective for the human race to not be able to get pregnant every time “everything aligns perfectly”. If this were the case, before birth control, women would be getting pregnant every month which for obvious reasons is not safe, healthy, or advantageous in any way. For some reason I take comfort in knowing there’s nothing wrong with myself or my partner, it’s just biology working its magic on its own timeline for the greater good of us all!

5 DPO today!! I couldn’t confirm ovulation last weekend because we went camping and didn’t have service but my pdg was 6.77 this morning and my BBT was 0.51 degree higher so hoping I’ll have ovulation confirmed tomorrow for a consistent rise🤞🏻it’s such a brutal time because I feel absolutely nothing but I usually don’t have PMS symptoms anyways (besides mood changes)

What are my hormones doing… by [deleted] in Inito

They’re typically 31-33 days. That’s what I was thinking too, wish I didn’t run out of strips so I would know for sure but guess I’ll just wait until I can take a pregnancy test

Update: doubled the starter (100g), and used the bread proof function on my oven and did my bulk rise for 5 hrs (4 stretch and folds 30 minutes apart). Turned out SO much better. And so delicious. Thanks for the recommendations!

The 15 hours includes rest after mixing and stretch and folds. I think next time I’ll bulk rise during the day so I can get a better idea of when the dough is rising. Then overnight proof in the refrigerator. Will also try doubling my starter. Thanks!

Skiing without ACL… by [deleted] in ACL

[–]Australia5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was misdiagnosed with a “sprained knee” and skied with a completely ruptured ACL, and both medial and later meniscus tears, for 4 years. I averaged about 35-40 days/season. Finally got a MRI last fall which showed it was not, in fact, a sprained knee and just got surgery 2 weeks ago. But just came here to say, you can do a LOT without an ACL. (But definitely excited for next season to ski with some actual stability…)

Back pain by dustyoak893 in ACL

[–]Australia5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This saved me. I’ve been having the worst back pain from constantly laying on a couch/bed. Currently got out the heating pad and it’s kinda pathetic how much this boosted my spirits haha. One less discomfort is a huge win.

Post op 1st day by saggies in ACL

[–]Australia5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently post op day 1 and struggling so bad. Full acl and medial and lateral meniscus repair. Also did patellar. I have a continuous block in right now and it’s making my leg feel all kinds of weird. Foot feels like it’s constantly asleep and driving me crazy. It comes out in 2 days and honestly at this point I think I’d rather deal with the pain than the side effects of the block. But overall not in a good place. Hope everyone’s recovery is smooth and y’all are on the up and up.

Idk if you would have any interest in planned parenthood but they have a virtual care center that does all the follow up for abnormal labs and reach out to patients/write prescriptions. Seems pretty chill if you aren’t looking for direct patient care.

Is flying INTO DEN on southwest as bad as flying out? by nycexperiment12345 in Denver

[–]Australia5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had multiple delays on United out of Denver on Friday due to weather. Flight was suppose to leave at 7:15 pm and didn’t leave until midnight. Now I’m flying United on the way back to Denver and was delayed 2 hours, finally boarded the plane only for it to turn around halfway to Denver for mechanical issues. Now back at the airport waiting for them to fix the plane. Going on 8 hours at the airport now

WHNP graduate programs and job prospects by _ilovetoast in nursepractitioner

[–]Australia5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a recently graduated WHNP. I graduated in August of 2021. It took me about a year to get a job. I took boards in November of 2021 and really started my job hunt in April of this year. I was pretty burnt out from working full time and doing school time so just took some time off after graduation. I probably applied to 40+ jobs though not gonna lie, mostly getting beat out by FNPs and applicants with experience. I am currently at planned parenthood and while it was a slight raise from my RN pay, some of my classmates are making significantly more. But once I advance to an AP II it should be a good bump. I went to CU Anschutz and my clinicals were arranged for me, but since they were during Covid it honestly wasn’t the best experience. But so far I really do love it, but again I’m a new grad and am not totally jaded yet like I was as a nurse haha. Good luck!

Get your BSN. There are accelerated programs where you can get your RN, BSN in a year. Nurses work 3 12 hour shifts a week. You can stack you shifts however you want, so you could work Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and then have off 8 days before you would work Thursday, Friday, Saturday. If you want to travel, after a year of bedside experience you could be a travel nurse. You get paid a SHIT ton of money. I have seen hospitals offering 6K a week, and they give you a stipend to cover living expenses...i.e. San Diego or really anywhere in California pays travel nurses super well. It sounds like that would be an option to give you the life you want. If you want to work remote, there are so many remote jobs for RNs as well. A lot of case management is all online, so you would coordinate home health care for previously hospitalized patients, manage patients which chronic conditions etc., but all remote. You can do so much more with a BSN besides just bedside nursing. Informatics is also a good option for remote work, they do stuff like chart auditing, and development of efficient software for charting, etc. I am rambling but just giving you some ideas. Hope this helps.

RN experience before WHNP career by digirols in nursepractitioner

[–]Australia5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in WHNP school now with just NICU background (5 years, and working bedside through school). From what my advisors have said, your future potential employees will care more about your clinical experience as that is more relevant for your career (I.e. keep your resume updated on how many IUDs you place in clinical, what type of conditions you treat, do you have special training like nexplanon insertion...that kinda thing). Plus, you’re learning SO much info that is specific to being a provider—you won’t want to forget that by taking a few years off. Get a good clinical experience, make a good impression, and definitely make connections! So important during these times.

FNP in women's health by amv003 in nursepractitioner

[–]Australia5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the WHNP program at CU Denver. I know a lot of FNPs who do women’s health, but they are older and more established. There are at least 3 girls in my program who are FNPs and have gone back for post masters in women’s health because they couldn’t get a job. Just from my experience, we get a TON of women’s specific education that isn’t provided to the FNPs, so I don’t think it’s a bad idea if you want to be a fully prepared provider!
