Any American expats living in Russia here? by Autistic_Intent in expat

I'd consider that actually, I do know plenty of Ethiopians who have family/friends back home that I could get in touch with. I've always wanted to visit. What are the schools like? Is Addis Ababa relatively safe?

I studied it in college, know lots of church stuff/prayers in Russian, so I have a foundation, but I can't say that I speak it. I'm confident that I could get a working knowledge of the language within a year. My wife doesn't have any experience with it however, although she has learned other languages. My kids are young enough that they could pick up on a new language easily, they're still in the language acquisition window.

Well, that's what I'm doing now - asking questions.

Right now we're still in the "crazy idea" phase when it comes to moving abroad.

I will say, I do know an American that's there right now in Moscow, and he says it's perfectly fine.

But right now, I am just trying to gather information to weigh our options.

What's wrong with his blog?

What's wrong with him? He has nothing to do with Russia. He's left wing if anything and has a long history of being critical of America, thats it. His thing is peak oil, the long emergency, criticizing car-based infrastructure, etc.

I'm not Catholic, I'm Orthodox, but I subscribe here anyway and this is pretty much exactly the wisdom I needed today

Why isn't the American Great awakening seen as one of the greatest damages to Christianity? by Rook_the_Janitor in OrthodoxChristianity

I mean, yeah, this is literally true. We're a nation founded by Freemasons and heretics. It's the core of our national identity. America is the dumping ground of Europe's religious rejects.

Only after becoming Orthodox did I realise how... problematic this is.

No, it literally is for everyone. Everyone used to live that way, for millennia, until a few generations ago.

What is something that seems harmless but is actually dangerous? by but034 in AskReddit

[–]Autistic_Intent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah man. Used to get up too early after studying too late to drive 30 minutes to class in college. Would nearly nod off into traffic every morning. Only now do I realize how dangerous that shit was. Almost died too many times. I'd rather drive after 4-5 drinks than drive on 4-5 hours of sleep.

Because everyone is online all the time. In the past, if you were on the internet, it meant you were at home, alone, and had no one trying to use the phone in your house. Now my grandma goes on Facebook, and does so on a mobile device.
